Negotiating the price. Question for you

I am looking at a 2006 X5 [3.0]. 34,441miles, CPO, great condition. (of course) The asking price a few weeks ago was 33,981. Then it dropped to 31,981. Not it's 29,995. I started working with the dealer on the price when it was 31,981. I wanted him to come to the price that he sold the last X5 at a week before. 27,995. That was the exact same car that they have on the lot now for sale. I've been trying hard to negotiate the price of this vehicle, but the sales guy will not budge. He came back to me this morning with 100.00 off. Making it 29,895. Invoce on this car is 29,500. I think it has till Friday before it's 60days is up. And I assume the price will drop to 27,995. So I'm betting on Friday, Friday that the SAV will be at the price I want. But I'm not 100% sure. My question is, if I offer 29,000 for the vehicle, is that a fair price?

Unfortunately when buying from dealer you pay a premium for CPO. Try bring that same vehicle to them for trade in and you would be extremely lucky to get $20k.

I'd wait the weekend out. Obviously no one's jumping on it and they're trying to call your bluff since they know you want it. Let them think you're walking away from it and I bet you'll get a phone call next week with an offer of 28500.

It's worth whatever YOU are willing to pay for it! If you love the car and youre ok with the price then it's your check to write..

Too much $$ IMHO. For that price you can even purchase a 4.4i with similar or less millage.

Agreed - got my 4.4 with 42K miles 06 for 26,5 2 months ago. However, used car prices are retaining value more.... but this isn't a great deal. Find something else.

Yeah, I'm gonna keep searching. I know that this guy is full of cr@p. He's quite the hustler. I just needed a little more validation to wait a bit longer. I know I should, and this thread strengthens my thought. He keeps saying that it's at it's lowest.. Whatever. It's true that these cars are a bit more expensive than a year ago. No one is buing new cars right now. That's why BMW has that great offer of them paying 2 car payments. Used cars are selling better.

You can do MUCH better.

I'm new to the forum since just a few weeks ago picking up a '05 X5 4.4i with 40k, has everything except for NAV which I didn't want anyway. HID, Pano, DVD headrests, heated rear seats, etc......The SAV is pristine. I took it for a day and had a friend who runs an independent German Auto shop perform a complete inside and out on it. Could not find a thing wrong with it.

Dealer had $32,000 on the sticker. They had allot of used inventory on the lot. So, I offered $21,500 and told him it was cheaper for him to sell me the vehicle at wholesale than to let it sit on the lot any longer. (These are ranging at auction with this mileage between $19k and $22k.) I asked him to call me when he could reach that number. If he couldn't, don't bother.
20 minutes later he called and said we had a deal.

I stole the thing and I believe you can too right now. Don't fall in love with one vehicle, be prepared to walk away. There is allot of inventory out there. Don't limit yourself to one dealer. In my area we have close to 8 or 10 within an hour.

I think people should post if they got their X5 as a CPO or not. It makes a big difference in price.

This might help you...
Two weeks age I bought a 2006 COP 4.4i, 40K miles with prem, sport, cold pkgs and navi for $30,500.00 in New York City. I also added $1695 to extend the maintenance for two more years. The body is in great condition.

It took me months to find one like this at this price. There are definitely more 3.0's out there and you should pay much less for it. At the end of the day, if you're happy with the car, it doesn't matter how much you paid.

Just my opinion...good lucj

Yeah, I think I'll wait till it hits 27,995. By then it will be a good price for me. I haven't looked for the 8cyl yet. I should probably drive one to see the difference...

Fair enough, band.
Mine isn't CPO although the BMW dealer had it priced as a CPO in my opinion. I felt that if it checked out clean by my independent and I could buy it for wholesale, that extra 10k in my pocket will buy allot of parts. Ok ok, I did extend the power train warranty for 6 more years....lol

Just saying, there are some deals to be had and buyers have the upper hand right now no matter how cocky some of these salesmen continue to be. Of course every market is different and I think we have a glut of dealers in the DC Metro area.
If mine were CPO, I would've offered closer to $24k then walked away.

rcap,
Definitely drive an 8cyl. and good luck with your search!
