Very happy to help. 4 days of standing though shouldn't kill the battery. Consider that you might have a drain issue. Some people in the past have reported things like a tailgate latch cycling all night long and killing the battery. Others have mentioned a nav computer that is beginning to crap out and keeps 'waking up' all night long and kills the battery. An E53 has a nominal load of just 14 mA when completely asleep, which is nothing. Any higher and you've got a problem.

You're right. 4 days of sitting shouldn't kill the battery but I have my Invision DVD headrests plugged into the rear cig light adapter and that kills it. Either way, I need a battery tender regardless. Just found out the battery in the M5 costs like $400 to replace. WTH?! Gonna use it on that battery also to keep it nice.

if my battery is completely depleted due to not being used for a while can this device charge to normal state?

Usually once it dies, it never gets back to full life again. I have killed my Merc's twice now. It has been about 19 months since the last time and no issues since. So I guess it isn't too terrible though.

Sorry to revive an old thread...
I just ordered a CTEK (56-864) MUS 4.3, which is a 12 V fully automatic 8 step battery charger. It features a desulfide mode, which supposedly restores batteries that are on its way out.

I got this to do some coding in the GM3 and LCM modules through INPA and NCS. Some have mentioned that I should get a power supply rather than a charger. However, I will not be doing extensive coding or updates.

Will I be okay with this charger if I let it charge overnight then program the next day, while keeping the charger connected?

I cant remember all specs of that tender but does it have a consrant power mode, like the 7002 model does?
Even if not, after batts are charged overnight and you leave tender connected during programming you should be fine while tender is set to full charging mode

^This is key when coding, or upgrading the DME, as if it drops to "maintain" mode the voltage could drop below the ideal voltage and interrupt coding/programming

Honestly a basic manual battery charger at 10 amps should work just fine for coding and DME updates. I'm picking up one from Amazon for under $50 (Schumacher brand)

The CTEK charger is more like a trickle charger, as opposed to the old school 10 or 15 amp types that give a big supply as soon as they're connected. I've had the CTEK for a couple of years now and they're great for keeping batteries like new, especially in vehicles that sit dormant for long periods (what I use it for). Not sure how this would impact on coding, but I imagine it would keep battery reasonably charged unless there is a huge drain happening, then it may struggle to keep up.

It does not have a constant power supply mode. I think the safer option is letting charge all night then quickly code it with the charger disconnected to avoid any voltage spikes.

This model only outputs 4.3 amps on some modes and even less during analysis and maintain mode.

Yes, you are correct. See above. Many have mentioned of not using a battery charger period when doing simple coding with NCS, which is not time consuming. So I think as long as its fully charged prior to coding, then I should be OK to code without it plugged in.
