What a great story! So, what was the fix? Is it in the DIY section? And is it something that could be done proactively on a correctly-functioning regulator, to help prevent it from breaking? There is a procedure for the E46 3-Series that involves wrapping a couple of pieces of tie wrap near the plastic clip that tends to break. This can often be done to fix a broken regulator, but it can also be done proactively to help (hopefully) prevent them from ever breaking. I plan to do this on my daughter's 04 325i asap. Thanks.

My wife just called to tell me the passenger side front window won't roll up. I guess I'll be trying the copper wire fix this week. I'm not much of a mechanic so wish me luck!!
![]() I also need to fix the door lock on the drivers side----ugh!

My window is stuck in the 'up' position. How do I get it down, to disconnect it from the regulator? I saw MrBMWX5' 'Flicker' post on how to repair it after I get it out.
Thank you! imbvl - '01 X5 4.4 |

Take a set of bolt cutters and cut the metal cord that runs from the left side of the regulator to the right side of the regulator. The regulator will have to be thrown away after doing this, so make sure you have the replacement handy.
I would hold on to the window at the same time just incase it drops, you could always get a 2nd person to help you ![]() Good luck! |

After the CV boot, here comes the window regulator!!
The driver window was stuck in the open postion. Local body shop replaced two plastic pieces without replacing the whole thing!! those two little fellows cost 10$ and he took 20$ for the labor of 2 hours!! 30$ to fix a broken window regulator! So now i know why you american guys dump your luxury cars that are expensive to maintain, and we buy them from you and keep them running with low cost ![]() ![]() actually it's only the labor that is cheap, when a hardware needs to be replaced, it cost us here as well (water pump, alternator, etc...) but the CV boot and regulator require labor as the major part, that's why i did both for 120$Cheers!
