I picked up a 2003 X5 4.6is in Emola Red the other day. My very 1st BMW. I've never been much of a car guy. Spent most of my years on motorcycles. So my cool car experiences are very limited. I had an 86 Mitsubishi Starion 4cy turbo years ago. That was 'almost' fun except for the fact that I was too young to afford the maintenance and bought the car with serious problems. So little fun there. It was a very long time before I bought a (then) old 94 Volvo 850 turbo wagon. I count that car as my first serious car. It had high miles but old lady driven and still tight. I absolutely love that car and may still own it long after the X5 is traded away. Those Sweeds really knew how to create leg room for the driver. But... my age is beginning to show and I no longer feel it is wise for me to bend so much just to get in and out of a car. Hence, the search for a truck or SUV. But... I had never had a muscle car. So there was that too. That... need. You know. Every guy needs to have at least one muscle car at some point, but sedans are no longer viable for me physically. The list of muscular SUVs and/or trucks narrowed quite quickly, especially when considering used prices versus new, etc, etc. Then there is the BMW badge. Would that gain me any 'respect'? Not looking for accolades. But respect is welcome. Would a Dodge get me respect from fellow white collar workers? Hmm. And so it was that I obtained a MONSTER/ROCKET/TANK/TOWTRUCK/RUBBEREATER/KNECKWHIPPER. I can't believe the thing can do all it can do and STILL tow 6,000 pounds. AND look like a Hot Wheelz dream machine. I'm shaking my head even now. LOL. A 4.8 may be in my future but I'm not sure I would really notice the difference. I just put around town with the occasional fire breathing burst. Another 1/2 a second off my 0-60 time is something I bout I would notice or appreciate. I'm very happy with the 4.6!!

Pics!! Sounds like a nice ride, congrats. The exhaust note is very addicting.... to the point that almost nothing else sounds good to me.

Pics soon! Oh yeah. The exhaust note is sweet music. Never had a muscle car before. It makes me want to 'enhance' the sound but I don't want to screw it up and make it sound cheap. Don't know anything about mufflers/pipes. I would prefer to have 4 chrome pipes sticking out the back instead of the two large pipes I have (with the two holes deeper inside). That's cool, but not 4 pipe batmobile cool.

The oval tips are a signature of the iS. I'd leave them.

I guess. But every suv has big oval pipes now it seems. Does't stand out much to me. And they seem to get dirty inside. Not sure I like that look too much. Personally, I would prefer 4 bright chrome pipes sticking out the back. The only people who would know the difference are BMW guys, and they are the last people on earth I would bother trying to impress. But thanks. I'll think about it.

Funny thing is, the sound is not really that loud. A debagged 3.0 with new pipes and 20" wheels is going to impress almost as much just cruising around town. Now if I could just find a waaay to pump up the volume without screwing up the sound. Weeee!

Yes - PICS IMMEDIATELY PLEASE Welcome to the club. Got my '05 4.8is in September and I have NEVER been happier with a vehicle. I constantly get challenged wherever I go...and to see their faces when I blow off the line - lol - GOD I LOVE IT. I affectionately call her "THE BEAST"...and it totally rocks. HP / Torque is massive and I am picking up a B&B Exhaust upgrade to kick that all up a notch. ENJOY SQUIGGY!!
