Looking to buy a front bumper and lower valance for 2003 4.6 X5.

Clean 4.8is on BaT, but "An invoice shown in the gallery below notes an electric draw and that the differential output seals are leaking. The seller reports smoke coming from the exhaust." followed by "The 4×4 warning light is illuminated, and the seller believes that the transfer case is inoperative due to a faulty transfer case actuator gear."

Parasitic draw, valve seals, transfer case...doable but buyer will need to budget for it.

This is going to sell for ~$6000. Least desirable color IMO and needs almost the entire hit list of typical 4.8is issues.

It was bid up to $9K but did not hit the reserve. Seller was an idiot for setting such a high reserve.

Nice to see these appreciating a little bit if that's a legitimate set of bids. I'm not convinced there wasn't some shill action there as that was not the nicest example of a 4.8is.


Seller needs to do some more maintenance if they expect top dollar. JMHO though.

I see a lot of "shill" claims about C&B and BaT but having sold my F30 a few weeks ago on C&B I didn't see any of that. The final battle was between two bidders. I was watching it as it was happening while driving to the KC airport. Distracting! But I got the exact price I thought I'd get and closing the deal was painless.

The sites are legit and I think they do a good job of vetting sellers at least. I would have advised this seller to lower the reserve or not have one. But yeah they could have had a friend or two bunp up the bids and I'm not sure there's any way to prevent that. Same bs on ebay too.

I will say that these sites are great for sellers especially if you have somewhat of a unicorn which mine was (6-speed manual, N55, very low miles and a hot color combo). A low-spec fleet-white 335i automatic with maybe 80K miles did not sell on C&B as reserve not met at $13K. Kind of a boring car. Mine went for about twice that. But for buyers, ehhh... everything I've bid on so far gets out of control so I'm not looking there anymore.

I don't disagree with you on that. I've also sold a vehicle on CnB. Very highly optioned 2015 F15 diesel. Got a great price for it ($8k over Carmax), though the buyer was a giant PoS and drove it for 3 years without registering it... through California tolls. Just sent proof of sale to the toll authority... again. Yes, I know I should always pull plates. I am just too nice a person and expect others to also be so. Plus he is a race shop owner and races porsches in competition. Hasn't cost me anything but time. Lesson learned.

I was just suspicious on this particular E53 X5 as it wasn't a very nice example of one and had a reserve. See nicer ones sell all the time in the 6-7k range. I wasn't trying to say the entire auction site premise is bad.
