Checkin in with my "new to me" X5. 2005. Just over 50k miles. Already testing the warranty with a new transmission.

Pic taken by the previous owner... I've not been able to spend much time with it yet.

Really clean and I admire that colour - seen a few of those here in Abu Dhabi

BTW mikeinmn, howcome there's no aluminum on the running boards? Would've thought all 4.8iS would come with metal outriders... annoyed not to get the sliding trunk floor myself but could have bought it from the scrap guy & it takes up quite a chunk of space; that plus the lack of rechargeable torch (blanked off) and reclining rear seats - oh well...

Hi all - Ian here - need a really decent forum to help out with some issues I get with this here car; will be lurking & posting as time permits

Good question Ian. Is something missing on it, or was the aluminum an option I dont have? Now that you mention it, I've seen them in other photos.

You've just got to have the tints here; it's soooo hot - the police allow maximum 40% Abs here, unless you are a VIP of course, so no funny business behind the wheel!

You can probably make out the metal running boards on mine - I thought they would come as standard, but perhaps it was a style choice? I lost one of the little rubber grippers that come inserted in them and it looked awful with a hole in. The used parts guy is sure coming in useful...

Here's an absolutely miiinnt 4.8 I saw parked behind the Intercon...

You can buy the little rubber gripper from BMW, the part number is 51717053464. Don't let your beast has flaw!!!

4.6is or 4.8is (E53 of course)

Hello everyone, I am in the market for a E53 4.6is or 4.8is. Wanted to get some input from you guys. I usually like to purchase low mileage vehicles, but with the beast, I hear horror stories. You know, members buy the car and then a month later the transmission or air suspension fails. I would hate to purchase a 4.8is with 60,000 miles and then drop money on a big ticket item. I am thinking of going with a 4.6is with high mileage, maybe even over 100,000. Some of these are in great shape. Some of the 4.6is have over 90,000 miles and original transmission. Is this a ticking time bomb. I have noticed in my search that the 4.8is have more transmission problems, is this true? Can you guys comment on this. I try to be a DIY kind of guy. I will do oil, brakes and look at the forums and follow instructions by fellow members, but would not tackle the expensive and extensive repairs, like transmission or suspension. I would appreciate any help and advice you guys can give me. I want to be able to post pics of my beast here as well.
