I don't think the BMW dealer will have any problem telling you the cause. I think you'll have their backup for the insurance company, no problem. Good luck and keep us posted.

Back from stealer yesterday, CCV replaced, spark plugs replaced, battery replaced with OEM. While it was a hit to the wallet, feels great to be behind the wheel of the E53, and glad I didn't roll with E83 (see my other postings). BMWNA took off 10% with this dealer.

Yes I'm very interested in this. Can you do a write up for the N62? Can you also take a look at post # 76+ on this thread:

Appreciate all the input guys. BMWNA has come to bat, as I just got off the phone from a rep minutes ago. They are covering a tow and BMW diagnostic, as well as going to work on my insurance company to cover the claim. I was ready to write off BMW when I was told I would get a call in 1-3 DAYS after reporting the incident. Still a bit hesitant but the call today did renew a little faith in my beloved BMW brand.
lo jack: the last service inspection came I believe in October when I had new tires put on. It came up clean for any issues. I do my own oil changes and still had roughly 1,000 miles to go on this service. I do check my oil level regularly and have not been running low or even had a noticeable decrease in the oil level. |

That would suggest it blew something horrendously on that drive from the airport lot. Very interesting. Good luck on your journey. It sounds like you might get somewhere yet.

Just wanted to add my recent experience with oil separator issues on our 2005 3.0 Sport. Last summer at around the 70k mark, we got an oil level low warning. Took it into BMW of Morristown where the CCV was replaced under the CPO warranty. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago when the oil level warning came back on again. Checked oil level on the dipstick and it was several quarts low. More tellingly, there was peanut butter sludge buildup on the inside of the filler cap.
Back to BMW of Morristown where they now claim that 2-3 qts of consumption is normal. Despite my assertion that that level of consumption is not normal and description of the sludge, they proceeded to brush off my concerns and simply filled it with oil (overfilled to be correct). It was obvious that BMW of Morristown could no longer be trusted so I took the vehicle to Circle BMW in Eatontown, NJ almost 1hr away. My service advisor Tim Meritzis actually listened to the symptoms and had the techs run a pressure test that indicated imminent failure or failure. The CCV and updated hoses were replaced under CPO. He didn't even charge me the $50 CPO co-pay as this was a redo of work improperly performed by BMW of Morristown. It pays to have a good dealer and service adviser that won't blow you off and will take the time and effort to diagnose the issues properly.
