Interesting inputs - seems to me as much as the X5's get bashed on this forum for reliability concerns, there is just no better alternative out there that has a similar level of driving perfection and as good or better reliability record and cost of ownership. I guess that is why most of us still have our X5's eh?

I woulndt consider a Touareg a sports luxury suv haha.

Only real choices would be

1. Porsche
2. Mercedes
3. Range Rover
4. Audi
5. Maybe Acura.

Nothing else really...

RR have bad reputation for breaking up, FX is ugly and drives like crap, Cayenne connot be fixed at independent mechanics in my country (dealer costs a lot), ML is ugly, and all the american SUV are a bunch of plastic driven by a jurasic-technology engine and fast only pulling straight lines (no pleasure), Audi have bad reliability and expensive maintenance (at least where i live)...

Thanks god they created the X!!

You couldn't pay me to drive one of those things. BMW has done some horrible designs since Bangle took over, but the X6 is by far the worst.

And to top it off, it isn't even practical. I think the E70 X5s are not very good looking either, but at least they have some semblence of practicality.

That is true, but as I found out recently, the E70 has less cargo space than a Ford Focus Wagon. So the practicality is a "semblance," relative to many other vehicles.

An Acura MDX or Infiniti FX. I also looked at the Cayenne but had not read good things about them. I had an MDX before my X5 and it was a great car. I passed it along to the hubby who drives it just to work.

Back in the day of my 4.8is- if that weren't around an ML55 (or G). Today, Id look to the Cayenne (maybe the GTS?). The new Cayenne looks waaaay better than the older verisons, thankfully.

A W463 Merc Geländewagen 4-door, AMG.

What I really wanted when shopping for a SUV. But gave into the wife on the X5.

Not gonna lie, I want that as my next car. It rides like crap, handles horribly, and squeaks, but in return it is possibly the funniest vehicle I've ever driven. I absolutely love it.
