I assume: they are failing because of its age (like the cluster pixels are failing after some years). Sharp doesn't produce them anymore so all screens we are able to buy will have some years on their back although they where never used

Thanks Spadge, your assumption make sense, so the future is not very bright for our Nav LCD replacement

Unfortunately thats the curse with those nice electronic toys in the current cars
Imagine someone owning the new G30 in 20 or 30 years...

But maybe there is a way to replace those screens with better and more up-to-date ones?
First step is to find one which will fit without any hassle (6.5"). The second one is the interface, but that shouldn't be a big problem as the ones in our nav all use a common RGB interface - according to the datasheet.

Ordered my screen off EBay from Hong Kong. Arrived 12 days, took less than an hour following the excellent write-up in this thread and having watched the YouTube video. Thanks to all those who went before me. Screen price shipped was $95 and change.

Replaced Screen twice with LQ065T9BR51U from ebay

I replaced my screen twice with LQ065T9BR51U screens from the same vendor on ebay...both times the screen was pretty dim...hardly readable in daylight. The screen that was in my car just has dead pixels bit is very bright. It is the same model number. Took both new screens out several times and ensure that everything was connected properly...still didn't fix the problem. I put my old screen in quickly and it is nice and bright. Anyone have this issue? The seller told me to put the old screen in, turn the brightness all the way down then put the new screen in...I did that and it didn't help (I didn't think it would work, but wanted to try SOMETHING). Anyone have any ideas...or was I unluckly enought to get 2 bad screens from the same ebay vendor? I have a 2005 4.4i sport.

I didn't have that issue, although I don't see much change when I adjust brightness on mine. My thought is maybe the screen isn't at the right viewing angle - it seems they are selling the same screen for multiple applications on eBay but earlier in this thread there was a lot about viewing angle, so perhaps they are shipping the wrong screen? If you move your eyes in front of the screen and maybe also above so you are looking straight into it, is the brightness better?

Thank you for the reply...yes...that as my original thought (view angle). The part numbers match exactly. I'm not sure what the other numbers are. I did look at the screen from several angle, including straight on, but it was only marginally better. I am sending the 2nd one back to the ebay seller and will try another ebay seller. You can see in the picture my old screen on the 1st picture...it is set at about 50% brighness...changing it because it is missing pixels. One of the new screens on the 2nd picture ...pretty dim at 100% brightness setting. The bottom pictures are both screen backs, with the old one on top. One thing that is interesting with the new screens is that they have some sort of a dried white paste on the back of them.

It is unlikely that you have received two displays that are faulty, simply that the bordmonitor needs to be adjusted to bias the electronics correctly to provide a bright clear display with the correct viewing angle. These screens are not individual to each model. They are produced for a variety of LHD and RHD and must be adjusted to suit the vehicle. (normally done on the bordmonitor assembly line)
I have searched high and low without any real success on the internet to find a correct procedure for adjusting the bordmonitor but it seems the manufacturers consider it a state secret.
The only way I have been able to adjust my screen is trial and error. Use a dim environment and adjust the pots one at a time to see the effect while viewing the screen in a mirror.
There is a partial description of how to do this by TEXASPAUL on Bimmerboard.com Adjusting 16x9 BoardMonitor (Very Long)
Good luck, and if you do come up with a decent method, please post it back here.

Thanks for the tip Toadhall1248. I think I will try that since I just got another screen from another vendor (3rd screen) and it too is dim. I'll let you know what happens if I do. I'm becoming an expert at changing out these screens!

Got it working! Thanks to Toadhall1248's tip

Toadhall1248 - thanks for the tip....after installing 3 different screens with the same results, i went ahead and followed Texaspaul's post on the link you provided. These are the only additional tips that I have:
1. Follow Texaspaul's recommendation and take a pictures of all the screws before you adjust. I made a lot of adjustments initially to see what the screws did to the screen and I really lost myself, so I had to reset them all back to the picture I took before I started.
2. Use a mirror (my wife held it so that when I was adjusting the screws I could see what it was doing to the screen. You still have to put it in the "normal" position to ensure that the viewing angle is good from the driver/passengerseat.
3. The screws that seemed to work for me was a combination of the 2nd from the bottom of the left screw set (4 screw row) in Texaspauls and the 3rd and 4th screws from the bottom on the right screw set (6 screws in the row).

It just takes patience and small adjustments to each of the screws to get the result.
