QUOTE] Maybe I wasnt clear! Humble X5 asked if 275/40 with 295/40/20 would be ok?I correctly advised that his rear end would be 16mm raised! He is also asking for our advise on 20" tyres ONLY as this is what he is going to install.I believe I am also correct in saying that 295/40/20 is again up 16mm on 275/40 and 315/35/20..Hence I recommended he go for the latter. With respect to the oem measurements,I agree with you(give or take a few mm!)and 295/40/20 only makes a 7-10mm difference up on oem set ups. I have a formula to work out the correct figures which give me:-(rounded off) 235/65/17...737 275/40/20...728 315/35/20...728 295/40/20...744 255/55/18...734 |

Can't go wrong with either style....
...although style 87 is a timeless design and simply is the best looking OEM X5 rims to date. IMO, style 132 is also fantastic. I can imagine it'll look even better in the 20" size.
Definitely go with the stagger 275/315. Looks infinitely better but the drawback is they're heavy especially the rears so you'll get more rolling resistance. They'll do fine in your wet climate. You can also go with 275 or 295 all-around. I think a couple of members here have the 295 all-around setup. Personally I have the staggered 20s and I love how they look. Good luck. (sorry late to the thread) Phong

I think that I like the 20" setup on the 4.8 (not sure of the style #) better than the 4.6, but I can't tell if it is just b/c it is on the new model or not!!

In fact, Toyo Proxes S/T's (which are a pretty standard size compared to other popular 285/45-19s) are designed to fit on wheels between 9" and 10.5". And if you take the specs they quote (based on a 9.5" 'measuring rim') the overall section width will be 11.0" when mounted on a 9" wheel. By comparison, the same tire in a 255/50-19 size mounted on the same 9" wheel would have a section width of 10.8". And a 275/40-20 mounted on a 9.5" wheel (the OEM front tire size on the 4.6/4.8) has a section width of 10.9" The section width of the tire really does depend on the wheel width, as the same 285/45-19 that is 11.0" wide on a 9" wheel will measure 11.4" wide on a 10" wheel. |

I have 295 all the way around...

In the spring I will go to the stagger...also I think you defintely want to use a 9 up front..when making turns on a wider wheel up from the stk width on the wheels, they wear faster on the pivot points...I am running into that on my set up as front and rear are 10inch...I am not sure how he did it might have something to do with the offset as they are Hartage rims...I have never once rubbed but I am watching the goodyears waste away on the edges up front, you can rotate but IMHO you still are wearing the tires faster than a staggered set up.... I did not set up the Truck the previous owner did. |

My only comment would be that since Style 132 wheels come from the factory only as a 19" option, most enthusiasts at first glance would think you are riding on 19" wheels and not 20"s...until they do a double take. On the other hand, the style 87 wheels are associated with the 4.6 and its larger 20" wheels & rubber. So it will be a quicker visual association for most afficionados to think your Style 87= 20" tires. The general public will not have a clue either way. Me, I am using the reverse psychology here. I am considering Style 87 wheels in the 18" replica size, to go with a set of Winter Ice & Snow tires. My stock set up will be Style 132 wheels in 19". Best of both worlds!

Sorry for the late post, I haven't been able to access the net for the last while, grrrr...
Thanks for the string of great opinions, here's what I've decided based on everyones informative advice: 20" Style 132s (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/20-I...011657912QQrdZ1 ) Front: 9.5"/ 45mm offset - 295/40/20 Toyo Proxes S/T Rear: 10.5"/ 30mm offset - 295/40/20 Toyo Proxes S/T - no chrome self justification: -I know the style 87s are more popular yet most can agree to the 132s coming a close second. After going to the stealers to look at the oem 19" 132s, I found I really like the 'updated' look of the rim and it's 'current' more rounded lines even compared to the 4.8is style 168s -I'm hoping the 20" version of the 132s will be noticably different from the 19" ie. larger looking overall and the rears having a more 'concave' look to them. But I agree, upon first look most afficionados will think they're the 19s. This somewhat bothers me as we all know there are no real 20" 132 oems. I'm hoping the compromise is worth it. -Both front and rears have a more negative offset in the 20" 132 version (45/30 vs 48/48), this should prevent the front 295s from rubbing the strut. -295/40/20s all around because it's the closest to my current stock overall diameter (+6.35mm compared to stock 255/55/18), they're front and rear balanced, and a tiny bit better in the snow than 315s -finally 295s stretched out over 10.5" coupled with +30 rear offset should still give a staggered appearance. See any flaws in my logic? By the way, does anyone have a favourite Lakeshore Wheels sales rep?

Only issue is that most (if not all) 295/40-20's call for a 10" wide wheel... I think most of the staggered X5 wheel sets are 10.5" rear, 9.5" front. As for a 10" wheel up front, if you can find one with an aggressive offset maybe it will work without rubbing (despite what all the sales guys have to say about it) but a 10.5" wheel up front will almost definitely rub.
