When I lived in Japan in '03, I had a friend who installed remote starters on a bunch of X's...400 bucks a pop + parts...I think it had some kind of effect on the alarm though...

i had mine installed when i got the X, very usefull the only thing that i don`t like is that you have to hide one of your keys in the car, like the valet key for example and to me that bring the security down
as far as i know that is they only way the dealers do it..

because the computer checks for the presences of the micro chip inside the key to be able to start the car.

So the key has to be in the ignition then? Geez, I think I'd look for another system...

they key do not have to be in the ignition, it can be hiden some where under the dash or any other like under the center console.

Interesting - I didn't think the X had the ability to "read" the key unless it was actually in the ignition. Are you sure? Have you tried the system without the key being in the car? I certainly could be wrong as I'm learning new things about my X all the time, but this doesn't make sense to me as the X doesn't have any features (like auto unlock when you approach and push-button start) that would make use of this feature...

In any case, I believe there are systems available that don't require this, but the manual says not to start the car and let it idle - it says to drive off right away. I'm not sure I buy that as I can't imagine that the "fluid" systems don't have the ability to protect the engine if the car's not moving...

yeah it does, have you try setting different memory for your seats and other things in the X and have different settings for each key?
when you do, and you unlock the x, the x knows wich key you are using and it adjust the settings depending on the key you used.
