No, the camera from that maya.yoyo dude does not fit into license plate light, at least not on FL models. You will have to cut through the trim (photos in post #73). If you are ok with that, you must definitely get type A.

This is the same seller I bought my camera from maya.yoyo. I had no problems with the shipping, cost and after sales returns / re-purchase.

The problem is that the camera - TYPE A or even TYPE B does not really FIT the License Plate Light Receptacle. It's not really PLUG and PLAY. As I said you will do some simple modifications - dremmelling, sanding and adjustments will have to be done to install even TYPE A. TYPE A is the closest fit.

Oh before I forget, you have to seal those holes and spaces with silicone sealants as these type of cameras are NOT WATERPROOF at all! Don't forget that.

Love to do the same

Is have a few questions...

1) Is there a wireless cam set up out there anywhere?
2) With factory nav, does even the wired version work on the factory nav?

Thanks in advance!

Mike

The camera is supposed to be water proof so I did not worry about water getting into it. I had to drill a hole through the back of the liftgate and the liftgate handle to get the rca connector into the interior of the car. Then I had to silicone that hole up. I also had to purchase a $225 video module that attaches to the navigation unit to get this camera to work. I only have one problem now, the error message check licplate light comes on the dashboard. To fix that, I have to get a resistor and connect it into the missing light bulb power line and then ground the resistor to the body of the car to simulate a license plate bulb.

The job was not easy and the camera was definately not plug and play like they advertise.

My camera is clear as day and it has good visibility at night. I have had it installed for about a month now with no problems. I also used a bosch relay to get reliable power without flickering. I live in Germany where there is PLENTY of moisture.

Do you know which resistor to use to get rid of the license plate bulb error?

Shurap1. This is the resistor that I have on order to get rid of the problem "Check Licplate". When it gets in I shall install it. There are a few resistors on EBAY that you can purchase also.

6 Ohm, 50 Watt LED light bulb Load Resistor

Just installed the 6 Ohm Resistor and Error Message Gone!

Hi Folks, I just installed the 6 Ohm resistor on my license plate circuit and the dreaded "check licplate" error message is gone. Wire this resistor in series with the wire that used to power the license plate light and ground the resistor to the body of the X5. If you have been following the thread, many people who have installed this camera had to use a dremel to cut out the circuit board that powered the license plate light which produces an error message.

Another option is to put this resistor in parallel with any circuit that is showing the error and it will bleed enough power through the resistor to ground to make the error message go away. It is very refreshing to have the error message gone! This part is a cheap fix and it works. We all like those!
