That's even better, so what would I tell the store if I walk in to make sure that I get the right springs? We have ace hardware here

I'm going to look this evening and place an order for a set of springs that I think will work. I went to Lowe's last night and didn't find anything off the shelf that would work.

Hopefully will let everybody know of a set that costs half what eBay sellers ask for.

took a few boxes up and put them in the boot , timing guide rails, Ps pump , liquids, and cam locking tools , wont see it again now till 2nd week in march

then let the fun begin

The main concern is you need enough room at max compression. If the compressed length is too long very bad things will happen.

I've heard of bottom stops with a spring built in to get the tailgate started. Much better than pushing mostly downward to get the gate moving up.

The ball joint at the end of the air spring will unscrew. Bring that with to the store for size. If you have an old school store with the springs find the longest spring that will just fit over the shaft then a spring with the opposite wind that Judy fits over that that is slightly shorter.

This combination pushes much harder at the bottom where needed but pulls down nicer



I just found a photo I took and I forgot the inner spring was shorter and outer was longer (was actually made from two). Also notice there are some brass washers on the ends.

I did this fix on wife's car it works perfectly in summer but in winter when the nitrogen is cold the struts don't pull ther their share and it won't lift all the way

You're very lucky to have been that close to home

Which is why I chose to replace mine on my terms at 114K.

Received BMW PN: 61 67 8 252 743 from eBay seller partscontainer

Finalized my headlight washer head replacement and filled washer reservoir 1/2 full.

The o-rings seem to collapse on these things after a decade or so. That wasn't the problem with my original part, it appeared to be leaking from the metal ball in the base of the part.

So far no leaks with the new part!
