Summer tires were virtually done, so this year decided to install AS tires. Have been driving them for a week now and it seems ok..not like the summer tires (Michelin), I will try them this winter see how they hold on..
Would you mind letting us know how much the rebuild cost you?

I finally got the resonator removed. No X pipe, just pipes welded in. I can barely notice the difference with the windows up. For $70, I'm very satisfied.

New battery from Sams. The old one shone the lights bright but just wouldn't crank the car. Charged it up with my brand new battery charger to 100%, but wouldn't last a day, even disconnected. Funny how the "green eye" was still fine but the battery was kaput.
Good for anyother few years I hope.

3rd Castrol Syntec 0w30 (fully synthetic, Euro Formula) oil change since I bought it last year. First one was when I got it home at 13K miles. Again at ~21K miles early this year. The oil was so clean after 7k miles that I decided I would go 10K on this one. I'm at 29,700 and the oil was nice and smooth on drain- though a bit darker than after only 7K miles.

Looks like 9-10K miles may be my lower limit. Doesn't burn a drop of oil and the chain just inside the oil filler is nice and clean- shiny even.

I'm not sure it does. But I am pretty sure that 5w30 is what BMW recommends. Of course, they also recommend changing the oil at 15-17k miles. I never liked the higher viscosity over 7 years with my other X5. It was always thicker at changes- even at 5k miles. This engine is so prone to sludge that I wanted as much flow as possible- even on short trips. When I do choose to go into the office, it's only a mile away. I also use it on my SC'ed 540. Relatively narrow and a little weird passages to get to the SC.

But really, weight of oil is a lot like the brand of oil people choose. The simple key is to change your oil at reasonable time intervals for the oil you do choose. Though many treat it as if it's the most critical decision you can make, the brand or weight you use is about 10% of the equation.

The difference between 0W30 and 5W30 is only the cold weight. Once both of them reach operating temperature (approx 200-220 degrees), they are both "30"W oil.

COST:
Rebuild of the trans $3500, I looked at the trans replaced and looked brand new, extremely clean. After driving the car for week or so, it has finally learned the new trans and performing accordingly, as when the trans was put in, it was a little jerky from 2-3-4th gears. But now smooth. hope that helps..

I started with 0-30 in my e46 right before I traded it in, so I thought I would replicate here for my first oil change this weekend. I like 0-30 for the winter. I change my oil 2x year once in the fall and once in the spring. I like 0/30 for winter and 5/40 for summer. Will not use M1. Dont ask. I run t6 in my e36. so far so good.

I bought the car monday night.

Couldnt help myself. Was only going to install my mediabridge. I just threw it in, didnt run the mic yet (debating if I want to replace my TCU to take advantage of the stock setup (have one that only does assist. I think).

So In 40 deg weather, I changed my cabin air filter, air filter, cleaned the MAF, new o2 sensors and new spark plugs. I decided to try the NGK iridium plugs for once. I yanked some gnarly bosch plugs out of there, that had to be original. So far so good, but I just spun it around the block to make sure it worked.

Oil change this wekeend

then send out the MID to get fixed, and then hopefully done till spring.
