I replaced my fuel pump. At 114K (young by some standards), I'd rather replace now on my terms than be stranded on the side of the road on an old pump's terms.

Looked at the jet pump o-ring and it was solidly in its proper place, so I left it alone, even though I had the larger o-ring replacement. I'll keep it in the vehicle just in case that monster rears its ugly head.

Fuel pump should last 4-5000 hours making that an average speed of 22-28 mph. If the X was used in town a lot that could be about right.

The o-ring side fails because the plastic part is only held on one side. Put a zip tie in the right place to prevent the failure in the first place you won't need the spare. There is a second seal that is plastic on plastic that also fails. Only can tell if it leaks while running. I left my left side open a bit and put the key to on (not start) to observe the situation.

Once I fixed my o-ring leak the other seal was also leaking so I fixed as well with some Teflon tape.

While at the dealer for the airbag recall, I had them flush my brake fluid. It's the third time I've paid a mechanic in my life. I feel kinda dumb. But its convenient, I needed it done for towing this summer (it was 4 yrs since last fluid change) and I've heard this car is very hard to bleed, and I've also got a whole cooling system to replace next weekend.

Also I got free Starbucks, wash and vacuum, and a loaner X3 out of the deal.

Hop on amazon. Order you a bottle of "Buckley cough and congestion" original mixture.
That shit will clear you up in a matter of days.
Be warned. Tastes absolutely horrible, but it works.

My 04 4.8 died on the wife about 5 minutes walk from the house. It was the fuel pump.
Died at 128k. No warning nothing. Just died on her while she drove down the street and would not restart.
