Yes, I needed to use a standard reach socket, deep reach socket, short extention, and a box wrench to remove mine. PITA! A FLA BMW dealer (who shall remain nameless) did the fluid change on a friends X5, shortly after that I helped him diagnose a leak and found the OLD bolds (he was charged for new bolts) and they were only FINGER TIGHT!. DIY so you hnow it is done right, that plate is a stressed member of the chassis and needs to be installed correctly, regardless of what some dealer techs may think.
