Converted mine to an air suspension setup. Its maybe an inch lower than the factory 4.8is height. Definitely not the economical option, in my opinion worth every penny!

Huntertec when you lowered yours did you notice any major ride quality difference??
was your a sport or non sport equipped car, also now lowered do you have any problems with the 20 inch wheels, especially clearance issues on the back when you have a load in your car or you hit bumps.

my rear tyres are flush with the out side edge of the body work and am concerned that if i lower it i will get rubbing
I noticed a very slight firmer ride , as I mentioned though my only regret with the excercise was I should have gone lower at least 40mm front and 50mm rear, mine sits high at the back with no spare etc ( runflats ) which I hate no end worst thing is I don't do enough Ks to wear them down to justify throwing them although I'm considering it. Mine was nonsport originally, no problems with 20'' wheels with clearence and I'm running 11'' on the rear. Main issue is your camber setting fr/re when its lowered, hope this helps.

If u lower your x5 too much it will look like a weird version of a station waggon..but its just my opinion. And 20" rims don't look that much different from 18" that you got already. I tried it and was very disappointed and surprised. and if u want 22" then u can ask guys around here about all the problems that it might create....my 2cents

Lowering may have cambering problems? Uneven tire wearout?

I had mine lowered with the H&R kit: Springs for front and lower links for rear air suspension.

Ride quality / handling - I don't even remember what it was like before the mod. But I think there were some overall improvement in handling, and not much different in ride quality (at least my wife didn't complaint!)

Looks - miles better; but needs at least 20s wheels or else the smaller wheels will look even smaller; I also put in spacers to push the wheels out as well so that they don't look weird with the fender flares.

Camber / Tyre - my last set of Advan tyres burnt out way too fast (less than a year, badly uneven, inner worn out much more than outer ) and I thought I had camber problem. But my trusted workshop sweared that the camber settings were all good and had no problem. So I changed to a new set of Michelin tyres, they've have been running for a year, and still look ok. I also pump in higher pressure since then as I don't want to burn more holes in my pocket!

Car looks great.

No warning lights for the rear air suspension? Where did you get the links?

I'm debating changing out the air suspension or just doing what you did. Love the drop!

What size spacer did you get for the rear? I agree my rear is sunk in a little bit. I was thinking a 25-30 mm spacer

Finally a picture! Its good to have pics when stance is discussed. I havent lookd into lowering the X but there are camber kits available, like the KMAC kit for example

BMWs tend to have rear negative camber which is (supposedly) done purposely for handling

Nope, no warning lights at all. The H&R lowering kit for the E53 comes with a pair of links already.

Spacers are 15mm front and 25mm rear.

I haven't really considered lowering or using spacers, but that setup looks very good without taking it too far. Subtle and slightly more aggressive..... in other words, Perfect! Good job simoncpw.
