I just parted ways with my first X5; 2001 with 180,000 miles on it, of which I put 130,000 miles myself! Last year in march I made the trek from the Gulf of Mexico in Alabama to Pittsburgh, PA then back again. 2000 miles Round trip, through Asheville,NC and the blue ridge prkway. Absolutely amazing trip!! I just sold that 2001 X5 for an upgrade, An immaculate 2002 X5 with 50,000 miles on it, just sat in a lady's garage!!

I've driven my wife's X5 on four 1,600-mile round trips to Minnesota. They are actually really nice to take on road trips.

A few months ago, I pulled a car with it for over 700 miles. It did great then too.

Vacation complete. Just under 4,500 miles in 9 days.
Northern Wisconsin to Phoenix Arizona to Denver Colorado to home.
The X ran great the entire time and with the exception of losing all of my windshield wash when one of the pumps wandered up out of the grommet there were no issues.

These things are a blast to road trip in.

Probably a Dakar class Kamaz would be the best executer of such a dream.

San Francisco to Jackson, WY. Phenomenal comfort, power and luxury. Not much of a load other than camping gear and fly rods. Not a problem the whole trip.

CT to Niagara Falls, Ontario. 450 miles on brand spanking new Bridgestone Deuler HP sports. What a wonderful ride breaking in new tires with. Now the tires have over 25K miles and still have life!

Either we don’t trust our x5s on the long trips any longer, or we have newer, more comfortable cars now!

Just got back from bird hunting in Iowa. The x was a beast, again. 1900ish miles round trip and some really foul wx. We went through KC the day after the snow storm and saw cars and semis off the road every couple of miles. The Quaife LSD was fantastic and the “new” transfer case performed like…well, new. Which is to say that it didn’t grenade itself due to poor workmanship!

Iowa was a high of 21 degrees over the 3 days I was there, but no precipitation thankfully. Unfortunately it was a very poor year for both pheasant and quail in southern IA. Still great to see the dogs doing what they love, and the x5 was a ton of fun. Other than having to fill it up way too often.

A good rinse today at home to get the salt out of all the crevices, and a serious vacuum to get the dog hair and dirt out of the inside.
