I would probably look at an X1, but since you want the luggage space, maybe a new X3.
28i, four cylinder. 28 mpg highway. More luggage capacity than the E53 (just slightly) Better acceleration than your 4.4 38,500 MSRP. Deal from there, get a few options, keep it below 50.
