Coding the E53 with NCS expert

Hello.

I tried to do some coding for some features that I thought I might like. I got a hold of something called ediabas and ncs expert, and after a ton of reading plunged into the coding. First, I saved the original read-out of the original factory (or as I bought the car) settings.

My goal was to:

remove the amber corner lights when the lights are on - did that
make the angel eyes turn on with the engine (a la DRL) - could not do that
remove the "ding-ding" when the key is left in the ignition - did that
allow power windows to roll up/down when doors are open - could not do that
have the panorama roof close when rainsensor catches rain - could not do that (but now I lost one touch roof close!!)
auto lock doors when reaching certain speed - could not do that
there were a few other things in the list of possible items marked "activ/nicht_activ" that sounded very tempting but changing them into the opposite value did not yield any desired results. I wonder, if I achieved any undesired results, but so far nothing fell off the car - I kept my eyes in the rearview mirror... lol...

Any opinions? any suggestions? I realize, that I am opening myself wide open, but please, keep the remarks PG-13 and kosher.... hahaha

Not to go off topic, but the places you've driven your car sound really cool! Are you in the military?

I am not in the military but I do work for the US gov-t. Adventures in Russia really took a toll on the car - they bugged the vehicle with mikes and the GPS trackers - we are not allowed more than 41 kilometers from the center of Moscow. Same goes for the Russians in DC - no more than 25 miles from the Monument.

Back to the coding - forgot to mention, I also managed to get the front fog lights to work simultaneusely with the high beams. In the US you can not have one operating togetner with the other.

auto lock doors when reaching certain speed - VERRIEGELN_AUT_AB_X_KMH
window safety feature - TUERAUF_STOP_MAUT
rain sensor is stupid. You need wipers on auto and if it rains it will close your sunroof and you won't be able to open it again until you turn off your car . It will not auto close if you have your car off and locked.
DRLs - try VERHALTEN_DRL_TFL. make sure TAGFAHRLICHT_ECE_1 is aktiv. I forgot if I got this to work or not, but I disabled my drls and just flip the switch to parking lights when I drive.

Hope I didn't miss anything, reading through lists of codes at 6am everything all seems to look the same , if these don't work I'll take a look at my modules tomorrow. These should work though, good luck!

[QUOTE=patrickkc;883942]auto lock doors when reaching certain speed - VERRIEGELN_AUT_AB_X_KMH

This line is marked as activ, still nothing happens... maybe i should do something with the keys?

window safety feature - TUERAUF_STOP_MAUT

There isn't a line llike that - the closest one that I found was

FH_TIPP_DISABLE_TUER_AUF which originally was activ, and I changed to nicht_activ, still the same result, no rolling auto windows wen doors open...

rain sensor is stupid. You need wipers on auto and if it rains it will close your sunroof and you won't be able to open it again until you turn off your car . It will not auto close if you have your car off and locked.

I will have to re-evaluate my opinion about the rain sensor sunroof.

Made it activ, no changes. Of course, I can turn the parking lights on, but today I already managed to forget to turn it off when I stopped for an errand. If it was always manual, it would not be a problem, but with the auto option, it is hard to do it manually in the daytime, and then remember to throw the automatic lights clser to the evening...

I wonder if this is possible at all - angel eyes (factory) running with the engine on...

I will hook my car up and take it look for you later tonight. I actually haven't turned off the safety window option on my x5 yet. I've done it on a few of my friend's cars but have been lazy to hook mine up and do it. The auto lock after x/ km works for sure because I have it done on mine. If I remember correctly, you need to activate something else a long side. Which module is the auto-lock function in? I'll pull my trc file and maybe we can compare to see what I did.

When you turn your parking lights on and you leave the car, it makes the buzzing sound, so I always remember. I have just been lazy plugging in and setting my DRLs to AEs but I'll give it a try tonight or tomorrow and give you some results!

If you find out how to do it, let me know too

Here are two files, the original that I keep just in case if I need to revert back, and the latest one that I got from the car this afternoon, after making one of your suggested changes.

Items on the wish list -

angel eyes acting as DRL (my E39 used to BUZZ with the lights on, the E53 makes a soft, gentle "ding", which I have a tendency of not hearing... getting old, I guess)...
auto locking once driven off - I had it on my 4.6iS done in Moscow.
radio to operate on odd frequencies (US) as well as the even ones (ECE) - had it working on the 4.6iS, guys in Moscow activated it (probably not the NCS controllable feature)
Gong to stop annoying me and the passenger about the seatbelt - I wear mine all the times but sometimes, on the test drives around the house, it is rather annoying. The little icon on the dashboard is ok.
possible window and sunroof closing with the remote keyfob.

Fog lights on at the same time as the high beams - done. Could not have it on the 4.6iS, as the LCM there did not support the feature.
got rid of the gong on while the key is in the ignition

somehow, now, when I am opening the sun roof, it opens as designed, and tilts up as designed, however, when closing it, whether from tilt down, or from open to close, it is closing in stages - it takes TWO presses of the buttion to close it form the tilt position, and 11 presses to close the glass portion of the roof and 14 presses to close the cover of the roof. The glass, or the felt (is it felt?) cover move a couple of inches, and then stop. Holding the button continiously to let it ride does not help, I have to let the button go and then press it again... and again.. again... again... again... and it is 25 times, until the whole thing is closed!!! lol...

I hope that once i return the values for the rain sunroof back to original, the roof will operate normal... just a hope...

I am using a "BMW Coding Tool" to read the values in English and quickly change them from activ to nicht_activ. Then I am dooing the coding itself with the NCS expert...

Oh, and to add to the confusion, this work is done on the '06 4.8iS, which I got less then a month ago, in addition to my '02 4.6iS, that I had for a few years now... nothing is being done to the 4.6... I need to update my signature profile...

you need to recalibrate your sunroof. There are tons of steps online to help you do it. It should work after you recalibrate it, but if it doesn't work recode in expert mode. Sorry, haven't hooked it to my car to look yet, will do it tomorrow

roof recalibrated/reset - now it works as designed. i have not programmed out of the rain sensor feature yet, will do it later. Meanwhile i noticed that the low beams are on during day or night, with the auto switch in the auto position. when it is in the off, or the manual position, the DLR is not coming on. I will need to change it, as I don't want to run the xenons in the daytime, i find it blinding when other people are doing it, and don't want to be that guy... lol...

Maybe get the front fog lights work as the DLRs? this will get the angel eyes on...

Also, what is the traffic law in Denmark? one of the programming DLR options specifically lists the Denmark DLR option separately... Maybe they have some special llights???

glad to hear recalibrating it has worked. I still haven't found the time to try to change my DRLs to angel eyes yet, but hopefully I can find some time this weekend to try. I am not sure about the Denmark settings, but maybe you can try them and let us know?

I just noticed, you angel eyes are after market? I think there is a way to hard wire the angel eyes to be always on as DRLs instead.
