I live in a "patchy" neighborhood 3 miles south of Minneapolis. Luckily my garage has kept the X hidden most of the time. I leave lights on outside of the garage and house, cheap protection. Also, GET A DOG.

Because of some damage to a previous vehicle I cleaned out the
garage for both cars. In your case if you don't have a garage
why not try to rent a nearby garage.

I'm speaking of being prepared in the sense if someone is armed trying to break in to my home, I don't currently own a weapon.

I actually just dropped off my application for a handgun purchase permit to the local PD a couple days ago, waiting period now ensues. I'm sure NJ will take months to give me an approval or disapproval (although I don't know why I'd be disapproved, no mental health issues lol)

In the meantime though, I must say, no one will want to break in, armed or not, we have a ROCK SOLID 75 lb American Bulldog (the bully type not the small English one) which although he is the sweetest dog you would ever meet, he would rip apart a would be burglar on command (pic in my avatar you can kind of see him)

Trust me man, my wife and I are planning a 15 yr plan or sooner if we could to move to one of the last great frontiers of America, be it Texas, the Dakotas, Wyoming, Montana, etc where freedom still lives.

To the OP, you say that your neighborhood is up and coming try to promote community organizations. I'm sure somebody else on your block cares about their car too. Strike up conversations on the sidewalk. Say hi as you walk to get the mail. Let your presence be known and don't hide in you're place with the curtains drawn. If you can influence a few of your neighbors to do the same you will help secure the street and the bad guys will go pick on easier targets.
What town do you live in exactly so we might understand a little better. In Portland there are different types of bad neighborhoods.

I would live with your uncle. I have a bachelor uncle, too and I may do the same. Nothing quite like hitting the town for those mother/daughter teams!

Also, I would assume that family is full of empty threats. Even if they're not, you and your uncle can defend your 'castle' (as in Castle Doctrine) more effectively with two people, anyway. Also get a restraining order.

Thirdly, where are the photos? Am I missing something?

Lastly, can you at least tell us which city you are in?

After the mixed reception I have received here, I'm sorry but I will not be sharing any personal information probably ever. I can't believe the jerks on this site. Where are the admins if they want money for upgraded membership? Anyway... pics soon! (It's ugly outside right now.)

girls, stop fighting... the written word is well known for being stripped of emotions, thus the emoticons were invented - when i say something, it may sound funny, when i type the same thing, it sounds nasty and mean... I've been on the forums, chat rooms since 1992, and learned the hard way...

The OP has a legitimate concern, regardless if his heighbourhood is nice or not - presently i live in a nice area but reading thelocal newspaper makes me scared of all the thugs in the area...

If you still have the ability to move with your uncle, do it - at least the guy knows how to protect himself (I am against guns, but I am more against criminals... lol... go figure).

when my wife got her E34, I could not sleep well as I was picturing bad guys taking the car... so, i took the car to NYC and got a two way alarm installed, that would have started the engine, lock the car, let you know if someone was tampering with it... Slick knows that shop in Brooklyn... The whole thing was installed when there was not a such a thing as iphone or mobile internet... I am sure there are options now that you can use, just make sure the guys who install the alarm, know BMW and do not screw things up... You might have to sacrifice a key to be hidden inside the car for a remote start, if you care for that...

If you don't know the specs of lug bolts, get them from a dealer, probably about $50.

The car will attract thugs that do not know any better, for a joy ride... they will not be able to drive off, but they can do some damage... make sure your insurance include comprehensive, which covers vandalism, stolen car and you can lower the deductible to $50 - the cost of comprehensive should not that prohibitive.

Come on Senor Sensitive.

You asked a pretty off the wall question

We are busting balls.

Could be worse and this could be bforums where they completely ignore you, or e46fanatics where every third post is from some 16 year old asking about what rims for the ladies.

I don't think you are in a position to say anything.
