Unscrew both of those screws .. Those screws hold the panel guide in the open or vented position. Now get out of the car and give the panel a firm push downward.. It will "pop" loose and close down.. That's it.. The entire sunroof should now be fully functional minus the ability for the 2nd panel to vent back open.. I took the time to really clean the entire sunroof area, greased the tracks and sprayed some wd-40 onto a rag and wiped down the areas that snug up to each other when opening or closing.. Mine is working great now..
Just wanted to say thank you for this post. A life saver. A little history: my rear panel was stuck in the up position. Took it to my indy, they closed it, left the sun shade open (at our request), and disabled the controls (so we didn't accidentally vent the shade again). $140. They quoted me $2000-$3000 to fix it, since they didn't really know much about it, and suggested I take it to the dealership or somewhere else. At least they were honest. Anyway, mid summer it was getting pretty hot in the car, and I wanted to close the sunshade, and stumbled across this post! I searched on the forum how to remove the upper console (separate thread on xoutpost), reattach the wire, remove the rear-panel screws, reprogram the sunroof (separate thread on xoutpost), and bham, fully (well, 95%) functioning sun roof again! Wife was blown away I figured this out. Don't worry, I gave credit where credit was due. Just had to spend a few minutes and say thank you.

My sunroof is working as it should now, but I do get that popping sound when I open it. So would removing the two torx screws in the back solve this? Would it also be helpful in maybe it not breaking as easily and needing a repair? What do you guys use to lubricate the parts?

Super late reply but yes remove those two rear torx screws. I have never had an issue since i did and that second sheet of glass tilts and closes perfectly everytime as it did before. Absolutely no negstives.

@clock work, will removing the 2 rear torx screws and then re-initializing the sunroof be enough? there is a recent diy where a fella starts to hack away at the plastic front rails guides of the sunroof and there is no mention of removing the 2 torx screws.....mine went wrong over 4 years ago! managed to shut it by prying the 2 guides in rear panel back....but since then have not found the time to tackle the fix...be great if 2 torx screws removal fix is all it takes...thanks

I even removed them with the window NOT tilted.
Can the headliner be manually moved backward to reveal the whole pano sunroof as in ur pic so as to allow me to remove those 2 screws?

you would have to try it.
remove them and see what happens. if nothing, then you lost a few seconds of time, nothing more as this is fully reversible

those guides at the back probably need a good cleaning & lube to operate properly.
my sunroof never popped once since I did this years ago.

So after a few years of using the tape on the sliders method, its no longer helping and I feel I need to do the parts replacement. kit 54137118849. The section you have in the red box is so cracked on mine I believe the slider feels resistance when trying to close and no longer closes easily. I can force it closed by holding the close button, but I'd like this fixed like factory.
I've ripped the headliner off before in search of the rattle and it a HUGE PITA as a whole. removal/install of the B pillars was my nemesis.
too bad I just need two sliders and not this entire kit. I wonder if I can fix the two sliders with most stuff in-situ instead of ripping everything down? Has anyone ever fixed just sliders (parts circled in red) before?

Did you ever replace those 2 rails? Mine are broken causing my roof to bind. Is there a separate part number for those rails?

I did not ever replace them. I wish there was just the parts circled in red.

I thought about just filing down the rough edges to see if that solves it
Then if so I'd probably pout gorilla glue over the broken gaps so it would fill in and smooth out the sliding area.
