I love b5 s4's also but the fact of doing work on them requires alot of bs'ing was a big turnoff.

I have some mods done to mine, probably qualifies for Stage 2, not sure lol. Trying to sell it at the moment, if i dont, then i might do a 4.2 V8 swap.

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
I was looking for a C5 A6 2.7T with 6 speed manual for the longest time, I wanted to do twin K04s and have it be the ultimate sleeper sedan. I lusted after a B5 S4 for the longest time but when you purchase one you better have the purchase price save up in addition for repairs, upgrades, etc, they are no joke.

Before I bought the X, I was even considering a Touareg TDI V10 but couldn't find one that didn't have 100k+ miles and was halfway across the country, or a Phaeton W12 since you wouldn't believe how cheap the Phaetons sell for nowadays.

All said and done I stuck with 3 pedals and got my X, happier than ever even if I had to do a decent amount of preventative and needed maintenance once I got it, although it only had 60k miles.

@ 4.8isX5 - The snow tires on my VW's helped a lot but at the end of the day you still are a shitload lower to the ground (my GLI on coils I had 2.5" ground clearance at the front lip) so unless you are only driving in the beginning of the snow you most of the time have to wait for the plows to get by! I couldn't tell you the amount of times I cringed on roads because I drove home in a storm and some were plowed better than others, I was just praying I didnt hit a chunk of ice or snow that would take the lip right off!

And to those who would say "why didn't you raise your coilovers for winter" i will say that there is nothing like a dumped VW on steelies with snow tires, who would ever want to raise it again after seeing it lowered!

@Ricky Bobby -

Wow you remind me of myself man,

I was also interested in the c5 a6 2.7tt, same engine as the b5 s4 and you slap an exhaust, tune k04 or frankenturbos on there and its a sleeping beast many people wont know what its capable of.

I liked the v10 tdi touregs also, i wasnt too interested in them though

And the phaeton is another sweet ride with big power and luxury.

Looks like we have taste in that niche market of cars where they cost a ton brand new and if you take it places for maintaince once its older it will cost alot too, which is the nice thing if you diy everything you can pickup a 15-20k car and everyone else will think your rolling in money and driving an $80k+ vehicle.

Tell him to look out for the tinted out, white 4.4 driving around campus! Lol.

Cornell is love/hate. Lots of work, cold weather, but hey, I'm graduating in may with a job lined up.
