Those seals are just pump to head so all it would do is stop an oil leak, what im taking aboiut is the part that the hose comes of of, its like a one way seal inside there

Those O-rings are both. Pump to head and pump front cover.

I just had my vacuum pump replaced. It was leaking slowly and pumping oil out. Evidently there is a pan under the pump, mine had almost a quart of oil in it. I also noticed a drop or two of new oil on the ground at occasion. This for now has stopped my oil consumption. Also as a side note this pump is also used on some Porsche and other fine German cars. In a worse case scenario the pump can quickly pump a large quantity of oil on the ground. Or nicely pump oil into your brake vacuum system. Hence the present recall on these pumps and vacuum lines.

I do not think this pump would effect white smoke. More likely if lucky white smoke is the ccv valve. If unlucky the valve guides and seals. My indie gave me a grave warning to start saving money for new valve guides and seals.
Wow, I have a 2006 4.4i with 60,000 miles what the heck.

My indie, who did work for a bmw dealership told me that when they did this valve guide repair (which according to him was quite common.) They would also drill out the oil passages a step larger to allow the pooled oil on the head more drainage. This must be done on the head at the bottom where it meets the block.

Ok this happened to be today...

Was idling for probably a good 5 minutes--Picking up a friend. Threw it in reverse, and hit the gas decently hard. Blue smoke. I havent noticed this happening since, but then again, havent had any long idles more than 5 min....

Should i be worried and start digging into this?

Not just valve seals according to his guy ( who sounds like he really knows what's going on with our N62's ).... This means in order to properly fix BM@'s mistake we will need to basically pull off our heads and do a complete overhaul, since we've been burning oil and it's going to be a complete mess in there. Then after we dis-assemble them, clean them, replace our valve seals ( and possibly valve guides ), then we can fix the real problem.... lack of proper oil return galley's!

So disappointing

not sure if you still are on 5w-30 man but I changed to Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 and noticing no smoke even on extending idle (sometimes I leave the car running for a while when I go serve subpoenas or something)

Thinner the oil is the more gets past the seals/rings, that's why above someone said he switched to 5w-20 I was trying to say DONT DO THAT the thinner oil will smoke more
