Picture show ride height sensor only. That particular sensor arm is in the correct position. However, if the X was up on a hoist it could be any one of the sensor arms is reversed. If a sensor has been reversed and you correct the problem, the light will not go out until you have driven the X for some distance. To correct a reversed arm jack up that side of the X until the tire is off the ground and you should be able to just push it into the right position. If you let the X down slowly it will likely stay as positioned but check it anyway. Of course, you can also disconnect one end of the link to correct the sensor position.

Was it the same other lights when you got back from Autozone?

The sensor pictured is in the correct postion. The sensor is only for the ride height. However, if the X was on a hoist than it could be any of the sensors. They should all be in the position of the one pictured. If one of the sensors is in the incorrect position you can disconnect the link to turn the arm over, or, if you jack up that side until tire is in the air you should be able to just turn it over. Let the X down slowly and then re-check the arm. The light will not go out until you have driven for some distance.

What were the other lights that came on when you returned from Autozone.

right now im overwhelmed by this issue so ive decided to bring the car home while i do my research and go from scratch. ill drive my other car while i get this resolved because i dont feel comfortable about what the indy shop is telling me. I truly feel they have messed up something when doing the axle boot because of the hitting trying to get the axle out or from removing some component.

issue is i dont have a yard or driveway to do these things as i live in an apt building and my car is parked in a paid spot. also, i am new to this car and dont really have the tools to test many of these things. still i feel i can track down this issue because the indy shop is tell me i need a computer, then they change it to alternator. one of the guy even said i dont have a voltage regulator and that my voltage regular is the alternator itself.

first i want to look into ll the sensors in that area....front axle (left side)

so there is the...

1. wheel speed sensor
2. ride height sensor.
3.?
4.?

I assume the X had all four wheels off the ground to do the boot. If so, it could also be a rear sensor. Good idea to check all sensors first!

The X is very sensitive to voltage loss or fluctuation. One of the most frequent symtoms is what you are experiencing. Since you don't have the tools or the place to work on your X, I suggest you return to Autozone and ask if they can safely test your charging system. The sensors could all be in the correct position and working fine with a voltage loss or fluctuation. This assumes the other lights that came on when you got home were the same or just as confusing as before you purchased the battery.

so far i think i'ved ruled out the alternator and battery.

battery is at 14v and alternator while car is running is at 13.2 to 13.8. i get this alternator reading through the obc unlock.

Also want to note that these codes were the codes i got when i first took the car in for diagnoses :

5DD0 CONTROL UNIT, OVERVOLTAGE

5E44 WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, EMC, REAR RIGHT

5EB1 STEERING-ANGLE SENSOR, SUPPLY

5F02 WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, GENERAL

5F3A TRANSFER CASE: MALFUNCTION

5F42 TRANSMISSION CONTROL, LIMP-HOME OPERATION

transfer case, limp-home operation - probably secondary...5F02 - i think is secondary generic description for speed sensor...
5DD0 and 5E44 are worrying me... one is overvoltage... this could be primary or secondary... once the code is cleared, i wonder if it comes back...

the speed sensor, rear right - that needs to be checked further, as this problem may contribute to many othe codes and other issues...

to check the speed sensor, you can do a multimeter thing but since you don't have the tools, you can try to swap the sensors around, to see if the error follows the sensor or if the error stays with the location...

on the other hand, you may just throw parts at the issue in hopes to solve the problem - if you are going for the speed sensor, make sure you buy Original BMW sensor or a reputable manufacturer, like Bosch or whatnot... do NOT go for a cheap chinese crap, you will regret the purchase and will lose time...

to replace the speed sensor, pull the wheel off, then pull the sensors from the hub - there a few write-ups on the forum... remember, the key thing here is the brand name speed sensor, not chinese crap...

I've been stupid busy. Second baby here too, two month old now. So if im not working, I'm feeding, burping or just trying to catch up on sleep. No BF again. I know my life sux, but its all good and hope to be back to BF in a year or two.

My comp is fine, why whats up?

The OP, I know this guy, that had some crazy electrical shit happen because his outside air temp sensor was shot. It's on the driver side brake duct. Check it and the wires going to it.

Since your in LONG ISLAND..bring it to MSPEC in Queens Village

im thinking Alternator and or Battery..do the least things first...

i had same problem as yours....check your battery percentage...then if still good...do your alternator...your voltage should NOT fluctuate...

I heard about Mspec. I might do that.

Thanks everyone for the tips
