The picture is the same DISA Valve. The repair that was done to make a bad DISA Valve into a Good Disa Valve was to remove the old seal and install a new o-ring in its place. The DISA Valve that I sent him has a new o-ring.

Underneath the car you must locate where the dipstick tube enter the engine/oilpan, just above there is a rubber hose that is connected to the dip stick tube. Feel the rubber tube does it have any soft spots?

You can see the connection for the hose just next to the bolt (Item 13).

oopsie, yes seal, FYI--OP has 3.0. Not challenging if you sold OP a good part or not if that is what you are thinking but symptoms are consistent with a vacuum leak at the DISA though also could be elsewhere.

I will jack it up right now to verify. Is there a connection at the top of the engine where this vacuum leads to?

Also this is a pic of the DISA as it is sitting against the manifold:

If the valve was bad I wouldn't had sold it to him. The valve was tested on my truck for two months after the new o-ring was installed. I kept it as a backup in the event the new DISA Valve would fail.

A more common cause of P0171 and P0174 code is the rubber intake boot since that often tears at the ribs where the ICV is attach to it.

One item that the OP mention was that there was a pop like a backfire when he was revving the truck. From my days of owning a PORSCHE 911SC a backfire could mean that the airbox could have gotten cracked which resulted in a HUGE Vacuum leak (That is why I still have a brand new factory OEM airbox for a 911 from 1974 to 1983). The intake manifold on the 3.0 engine is also made from a material similar to PLASTIC.

the "POP" seems to come from the rubber boot itself, almost as if it tries to take a deep breath and collapses the tube.

IS there pictures anywhere of all the vacuums for the 2001 3.0i E53? Pictures would help alot to identify each vacuum line and see if they are leaking.

As I said, I am not questioning whether the valve or valve seal is bad that you sent him. It could be a result of the install or who know why it could be leaking. Also, I mentioned that it could be other causes but since that area has been worked on I am suggesting before jumping to something else to be sure the valve has been thoroughly checked for a vacuum leak. IMO we have been jumping around too much and not doing enough troubleshooting pre new parts install. It appears the parts replaced were due but OP still has the original problem. OP has said he has a budget so I am trying to eliminate the less expensive possibilities, easier to get at, and more likely culprits first.

I thought you checked the boot and it was fine?
