I can appreciate that.

I've told the story before, but my local UHaul, not bad guys at all, told me they couldn't install a hitch. I told them I didn't want a hitch, I had one, I just wanted to rent a trailer. They said fine, but we aren't permitted to work on x5s any more. Seems like doing so had become a CLM. Turned out they had one or more big failures post-install, and their regional head office issued a letter saying no more. They said the issues were receiver attachment, and electrical. They wanted to inspect my hitch, before they would rent me a trailer. They were satisfied. But I was surprised by how that letter impacted their rental operation (this was a large rental operation, not a franchise at a gas station). I rented trailers 10 or so times from them over several years, and each time they asked about my hitch before accepting a reservation or completing a contract.

I'm actually considering pulling my hitch off and selling it. I never tow anything with my X5.

It's mint and has never been used. Any idea what I can get for this thing if I pull it off? Wiring and everything included?

I'd say $250, half of new, but you would want the donor and recipient vehicles next to each other as the swap was done because there is more to transfer than the receiver, like the bumper supports.

about two years ago i rented a uhaul from a local shop... they were all fine until they saw it was an X... then they said no, we can't rent it out unless the hitch is a factory hitch... i told them it was... they actually went outside to look and they were satisfied...

after i swapped the hitch from the old 4.6 to the "new" 4.8, i too, can appreciate the details in the engineering thought...
