Just an opinion, but we activated 5mph locking on our X and hate it. Because it doesn't unlock when you stop, the only doors that are open are the ones you get out of, and that takes two door handle pulls.

I try an remember to hit the unlock every time I stop now because I can't open the liftgate, gas cap or passenger doors without doing so first. I like to lay my jacket on the back seat and constantly go to get it and realize the rear door is locked. You can't open any door for your passenger (helpful if you have ladies or children in back) if you forgot to hit the unlock. Also, if you hit the rear hatch button, it is a race to the back to beat it from relocking itself before you get there. This makes the hatch button usless, might as well just hit the unlock button and use the opener on the hatch itself.

I will be removing this option at my 1st dealer visit.

I asked for drive away locking turning on and love it. My wife and kids are always the main users of the car so I and they feel much safer with the doors locked. We always remember to press the unlock button when we stop. Our audi DOES auto unlock when you turn off the engine, why BMW didn`t do this I cant imagine. Anyway after a while it become habbit pressing the unlock button.

They are described on the Car/Key Memory form (see link below). It can be found on the X5world Main page (scroll to bottom of page, right side).

I have both these funtions turned on in my car and I like them. I got mine turned on by the dealer. Once they have been turned on by the dealer all you have to do is flash your headlights and then they stay on for 30 secs.

I had the auto lock feature activated and hated it. I had it changed back 2 weeks later. The rear hatch constanlty tried to relock itself, and you had to always hit the central unlock button or double pull each door handle. You can always try it out and change it back if you don't like it, but don't let your dealer charge you (or at least not charge you much) for this service. Mine (Center BMW) did it for free and it took about 10 mins. each time.

Mine tried to charge me £50 plus VAT over here in the UK. But I protested saying the rep who sold me the car didn`t say they`d charge me to have it turned on. I also pointed out that Audi didnt charge me to have it turned on - on my A6.. Every penny, that`s what they want..

If it's just to turn on the auto lock feature, I wouldn't spend the $. But if you alos want to add any other features like daytime running lights, etc., then maybe.
