Ebay springs to raise hatch

I got the shocks in from ECS this week, but I am waiting on the springs to install them.

Meanwhile, I did wash the X5, secure, cut and arrange 44 roses into vases around the house for my wife's special day tomorrow, and prepared 4 pork shoulders for an all day smoke- a dry run for the Super Bowl. Off to the birthday dinner!

Awesome. I am glad they worked out for you. They just weren't for me - with the way I am always popping the hatch with the keys in my pocket, I am sure we'd have trouble......

Neat, thanks guys for sharing your experience with these.

Am still a little leery because it might put undue stress on the soft close mechanism (having had to repair it and price out parts for it, they are $$$), but they still look interesting!

For you owners that have installed them, did you notice any increase or decrease in the dreaded hatch rattle condition?

2002 X5 3.0 273,500 miles
2004 325i 118,000 miles

I have a 2001 with 131K miles on it, springs installed and my car has zero rattles or sounds from the rear.

I have not had that issue in either the '01 3.0, the '04 3.0, or the '04 4.8is.

I've only used the springs in the 4.8is

I had gotten rid of my rattle by about 90%, by updating to the newer spring loaded bump stops and by adding some cushion pads to the upper latch. Now that I've installed these springs the rattle is completely gone, so that's a side benefit of installing these springs.

Noted on my to do's is to get the updated bump stops.

TBH, I spray a little Teflon lubricant on the upper latch about twice a year and to be honest that stops 75% of the rattles.
