Stiffening plate bolts
I've checked all the standard (BMW) online parts places and cannot find them there. I've checked realoem and cannot seem to locate the skid-plate in any of the diagrams Where do I get these bolts? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have removed the plates a few times, I re-use the bolts, zero issues.
They are big bolts so don't worry. The bolts are similar in size to wheel lugs. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...se-fluids.html

Thanks for the great DIY link. That's helpful. I already did the transfer case and rear diff in the spring but have not got around to the front diff because of the plate.
I'm about to have lots of time on my hands as today is my last day of work till January 5th! Boom! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What does it hurt to replace them?

The indie I used said in all the years of pulling these plates on and off, they have never replaced the bolts/nuts. And yet, the documentation all states they are a single use only. I have a spare set that they did not install. I have a few more repairs to do and I want a second set of eyes on some of the oil weeping before I say I'm done with pulling the plate on/off. When I'm as done as it'll let me be, I'll toss in the new bolts. If these have lasted being on/off for 200,000km, then the next new set should be good for a while too.

TTY bolts are intended to have a preload which reduced high cycle fatigue. They won't break immediately but will definitely need to be replaced for the long term.

I try to replace bolts like that following the manual, but what I keep finding (speaking in general) is that the local dealer doesn't stock any of these special bolts - which means, to me, that they are not regularly replacing them either.
Wish someone with experience would/could answer honestly whether the dealer techs really replace those things every single time.

A friend of mine is a master tech at BMW dealership. The mechanics do not replace any bolts, unless it is bad.
So in 99% of the time, they re-use the bolts. Of course, when dealing with cylinder head bolts, they replace them because these bolts are critical. Only the BMW enthusiasts who sit at home reading the technical manual replace the stiffening plate bolts lol...
