Turn the key to position 2 for 30 seconds (without starting) then try starting. Heard from several sources that this method will start the car if having sync issues with the key. Worth a try...

Yeah, order a new key from an authorized BMW dealer. It will take a couple of days, weeks, or months depending on your dealer. Keys are not cut/ or program at the dealer they either get it from the fatherland or Tennessee which ever factory is the closest.

Also, could be park sensor or relay preventing 12 volt to starter.

There are many reasons why there is no 12 volt to the starter solenoid. On my Audi the signal wire had a break in it so I just located the break in the wire and spliced a new wire from the break to the solenoid.

Check relay to the starter as well.

Hi, there, I doubt the park sensor as I can rotate the car on all gear level, and the dash lights for the position of the gears are in concurrence with the gear selected. Thanks

I used to have Audi that had sensor/solenoid that released the gear from park when brake was applied. This sensor/solenoid sent gear park position to ECU separate from gear selector. This failed on me and prevented my car from starting. Yes, it's a VW so some things are redundant. By looking at RealOEM, I didn't see similar sensor/solenoid unless it is built into gear selector. Yeah, E53 probably doesn't use/have it.

Okay, I have received back my EWS and DME back from RPM motor sports,
- Installed it back in-
-Checked the battery to be full charged
-Then --------Wait for it! Wait for it! ----------

TADAAAAAAA! Feckin! feels great to be an X5 owner again!! after a month being unloved in the garage! She is now running again! Silky smooth baby!

RPM motor sports did a great job on my EWS!

First time poster, but have been a car guy for 32 years and owned Bimmers for 15 years.

Having a very similar issue, figured I would post in here so people can get more insight to the problem and solution for this:

2001 BMW X5 3.0, will not start, no clicking even coming from starter. Tested wire terminals to starter, thick one has 12.6 volts as it should, both starter solenoid contact wires go from 20mv (ignition off), to 50mv /34hertz (ignition on) on the black/green wire on the topside of solenoid. Bottom skinny wire on solenoid (black wire) goes from 20mv (ignition off), to 50mv (ignition on) with no hertz. No change from ignition on to start position on key.

Check out the oscilloscope readings for detailed patterns on the voltage.

Thanks for any input, it's greatly appreciated.
