I had Bmw service tell me if you owned the car they would tell you of service preformed as warranty repairs but nothing more.

I was considering a Porsche cayanne ... Porsche service told me they would tell me anything short of personal information of current or former owners. In the Porsche case I learned of things done and not done and learned it had been some years since last seen which was contrary to the owners statements

I took my key and registration into the local BMW dealership and they printed out a report of every time it had been into any BMW dealership in the country. Dates mileage and services/repairs/owner complaints performed.

How would you expect BMW to know of private/non-warranty repairs?

I would expect bmw to know of all.the services they have done whether under warranty or not. And we see the.other post saying an owner can get.that information. Bmw just doesnt want a prospective buyer having access to.that information. Ever notice.how used car.sales.never.has the x owners.service.records? It is a risk to the sale letting the buyer know the full.history. I bet the unfortunate owner here will see.in the cars history.indicators of the issues he had with the engine.

Sigh.

1. BMWs official policy is that no dealership may give BMWNA records to anyone. Even the current owner. The dealer can provide records during the current owners ownership period.

2. If there are reports that run counter to the above, DO NOT assume this is a new policy or anything OTHER than just noise in the market place. Some dealers dont follow the rules. Will yours???? who knows. Can you demand it? Not hardly

3. BMWNA tracks service done under WP (warranty plan) and MP (maintenance plan) ..as I recall... They do not track repairs and work then BMWNA doesnt pay for. People need to understand the dealer is NOT BMWNA. What they tract and one's expectations of what they track are unrelated.

4. Used car salesmen- BMW and otherwise- make it a point to know as little as possible. There is nothing in it for them...only downside, IMO.
