I had trouble with the ebay magnetic antenna, but it was useful to verify the GPS did indeed work. I had to put it on the a-pillar outside in order to reliably get a connection. I ended up buying a 4m extension cable from ebay. Connected to the blue connector (?) in your photo post 23. I ran it along the drivers side of the carpet under the plastic trim near the door sill, and up into the dash to get to the CIC. Works really well.
So you connected it to the shark fin antenna ? My nav isn't working yet. I'm still in the ocean. I would much rather have it connected to shark fin antenna.

Was quoted $700+ for combox+ needed wiring. What I need was not disclosed.

Yeah, was just checking prices. $700+ and then another $125.00 for USB. Not going to mention where, but you get the idea. So I know I need the combox and harness. I know there's cables in the back that connect to it, but my question is how do I use the rear fiber optic cables if they are dead ? They have to be blocked somewhere the question is where that is.

Yep, shark fin works. Mid ocean? Mine was stuck in Puerto Rico until I got the antenna sorted out. Sounds like you've still got an antenna or maybe a map problem. Do I recall you have upgraded the maps already? Did you use the VIN you extracted for the code? Put your antenna on a-pillar or roof, outside of car, drive to an open parking lot, reboot CIC and see if it "sees" any satellites. There is a GPS service mode which will show you if there is a satellite connection. From memory it goes.....

-Pull up menu on screen
-Hold iDrive knob forward for ~12 seconds
-3 clicks right
-3 clicks left
-1 click right
-1 click left
-1 click right
- Press iDrive down
- scroll to "Service Menu" from main menu screen

Yes, has 2016 maps. I put the GPS antenna under the dash behind the monitor. So if I take it out where exactly am I going to hide it ?

Under the dash? I think the dash has a solid sheet metal skeleton that's covered with foam and vinyl. It's likely blocking any signal. The idea is to temporarily put antenna outside the X5 to make certain it's getting the best signal possible.

I might just end up ditching the eBay GPS antenna if I can hook up the shark fin. I know I have the wire in the back, just need to know which part number to buy. I'm not sure if they sell the that cable, it would have to be pretty long to run towards the back.

There is a distribution block in the back where they have to be connected, you may have to remove the trunk panel on the drivers side and trace the fiber to find it
