I'd start by checking all of the fuses for the infotainment system. Then I'd plug in a scanner that is capable of reading the codes from those systems.
I believe the warning gongs are played through the stereo speakers. So if the head unit is dead, that would explain the error. Need to figure out why it went dark.

I'm guessing maybe the voltage on the battery has dipped after a week on vacation - would be interested after a long drive if it magically started working again on restart -
If yours is an 11 I guarantee the original battery is in there and for the amount of electronics on these cars I'd say 6 years is damn good lifespan and look for replacement soon.

Hmm yeah, my first troubleshoot would be checking the fuses. Then battery voltage, that's what I've been reading so far. Some said it could be a blown amp, but I know that was literally replaced the day before I bought it so I think that is highly unlikely. I'll also check the battery manufacture date. Just weird that's the only thing not working, vehicle drives no problem, unlock/locks, heat/ac, windows all work, etc
I don't think we had rain last few days, so I don't think it's a water issue but i'll look around

(Unrelated anecdote, my 2003 e46 is still running its original battery 😵 😵 )

Just replaced mine in my '98 E36. And thinking that's because I left it unattended all winter, couldn't get it to hold a charge when I fired it back up in the spring.

Anyone know what fuse number the radio is?
I checked the battery area, no moisture at all. Battery is definitely original BMW but I don't think it's a battery issue. Wife drove the vehicle all day. I found this laying around in the trunk (left compartment), not sure what it is? Disconnected the battery to see if that would help, but no dice. Comfort Access, Radio, Bluetooth do not work. Everything else works.

That's a MOST bus termination loop that was probably connected to part of your system there in the left compartment where the stereo equipment is located. Do you have the original stereo or an aftermarket? This would also include the amplifier. If you look in that compartment you'll probably find a fiber optic pair in a connector hanging loose where this would plug in.

Absolutely agree. The E70 system CANNOT fully charge a battery, even with hours of driving. On the E46, any special care to that battery? Trickle charger perhaps? |
