so i just kept the egr valve at the throttle blocking it off with a copper plate as indicated here. have to be real careful to make sure there is not boost leaks. 0.80$ EGR delete for M57 (35D) - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums the only other options would be to 1 remove the interior guts of the egr valve with a dremmel and proceed to seal it of by welding. which would be very labor instensive. 2. buy the overpriced racepipe from aa rodriguez. who seem to be the only ones to have it. 3. there are some other racepipes on ebay for about 70 but it's a gamble weather they have the right diameter or not. |

Ok, I was looking at the bimmertune pipe on eBay. It's about $120 and looked like it comes with everything needed. It even comes with clip on caps for the water tubes instead of the hose the Rodriguez unit comes with. The manufacturer has been very responsive to my questions. And I'm not sure a few mm of diameter mismatch even adds up to the same restriction as the EGR pintle.

I'm sure that it won't be. I imagine the welded pipe are all using off the shelf tubing that won't match. The Rodriguez is machined from billet probably for this reason.
How much mismatch was there? A few mm? I might chamfer and blend the lead-in if it's fairly close.

i remember once working on a plumbing project where a smaller diameter pvc pipe was added for a small trajectory. the pump attached was so powerful that the small pvc pipe would come loose every time no matter how well it was welded together. it just creates a lot of turbulence. but water has a lot more resistance air. and im not sure i understand how much volume of air is flowing trough. maybe someone that knows more about air flow and volume and stuff can chip in. seems the entire system is designed to increase air flow. you could flange the race pipe significantly too like you said to reduce the hit with a dremmel or something. then there is also the question weather the racepipe will seal properly. the manifold end does not have a rubber washer. where as the side facing the throttle valve does. |

Turbulence definitely creates more issue with denser fluids. Fluid Dynamics was not one of my favorite subjects, but I did receive quite a bit of instruction while in school for engineering.
With air, I wouldn't expect any issues from a few mm reduction in diameter, even without treating the edge. With the end facing the flow being blended and smoothed, and the end facing the motor left sharp, or even undercut, the change in flow should be minimized. There is friction between the incoming air and the side of the duct, which means that the air at the edge is already moving slower than the majority of the air moving through the pipe. From that, I would reiterate that the EGR pintle in the stock setup causes much more disturbance and turbulence in the air flow. As for the mating surfaces, I'm sure some RTV gasket maker would go a long way towards sealing that face. I also have some specialty anaerobic gasket maker from Loctite/Henkel that may be well suited to the job. It cures a bit harder than RTV but still has a little give. It also sets up very quickly once you close the gap between the parts.

Quick update
Since tunning the car have had a mi-rad of CEL causing codes. for the last 6 months I've spent countless hours running tests in Rheingold setting up ISTA-P getting under the car removing and re installing various emissions related parts at the request of the tuner. First the nox sensors gave a CEL so the computer was sent back a second time. As well as some errors related to egt sensors which i was originally told to remove. had to be re installed. When I got the computer back other errors began to show up so the computer had to be sent back a 3 rd time. this time the Tuner requested the nox sensors be plugged back in. After I had sold them So I had to buy used ones from another forum member. When I got the computer back the third time I began to get MAP sensor related faults. this time the tuner requested the low pressure egr be plugged back in. So i got under the car and bolted it back in. The egr errors went away but the MAP sensor faults remained. Spent total of 5 weeks without my car since the ecu had to be sent so many times. can't begin to describe how many times my car had to be raised to "try this" "try that" none of this worked and the tuner ultimately blamed my car for all these issues specifically that my ECU is defective. Even tho my car was problem free when the ecu was sent to begin with. Finally since It was obvious I was gonna be left on my own with the excuse my ECU is supposedly bad I gave up and paid another tuner to do the job since the original tuner frankly left me with a lack of confidence in their service. The ECU was sent to Dima at DUDMD seeng how it worked so well for Daytonaturbo and the car has worked flawlessly since. No CEL's and no logged errors in ISTA Currently working on getting a refund and very very disappointed and frustrated on all my time and money wasted on a tune that in my opinion based on my experience was not ready to be released to the public. Even after the car was fixed with a different tune the original tuner maintains the issue was not at their end. Now I get to chase them for my money which frankly I doubt I will see again. |

I’m so glad to hear you are still doing well with DUDMD’s tune. I can only imagine the relief you feel after all that frustration. I almost went with the same guy you had trouble with. My wife would have killed me if I took us down that rabbit hole.
In my opinion, you are well justified to publicly out the guy, even more so if he continues to deny your requests for refund. I don’t see him around here much, but if he keeps farming for customers, I think we owe it to the community to shame bad vendors.

Another significant bit for those making their decisions is this: When Dima received my ecu he took pictures of the communication pin tuners use to flash inside the ecu. He explained he uses a special needle to access the com port you can see below. This prevents having to solder a cable directly into the ECU board which is obviously not the best idea since there are so many things that can be damaged by the heat. ![]() The pad the needle is touching should be flat like the others. It appears someone had welded into it previously. Since my car had never been tuned or had the ecu opened before the deletes it's stands reasonable that The tuner I had been working with welded into the board. while we never discussed the specifics of how the ecu was to be flashed/accessed, lots of commentary was done by bawareca in this forum about the level of sophistication the specialized equipment he used was and how relatively safe it was for him to do it. Needless to say I would have not sent my ECU to a guy who was going to be welding into the ecu. To be completely transparent here. bawareca did send me his ICOM+ adapter to de tune my car to stock specs 3 weeks ago. He then asked me to drive the car on limp mode for 300 miles to get the errors to log. the plan was then to resend the computer a 4th time to him so he could address all the codes. I instead opted to go with a different tuner due to the inconsistencies listed above, very slow response rate and many others. I am now still in possession of his ICOM+ adapter. To be sent back and shipped out of my pocket as soon as I get my money back. He on the other hand wants his adapter first then he will refund me at a later time. Since I have lost faith in him this option is no longer valid. |
