2011 35i Garage Door (Liftmaster) Issues

Hi everyone,
I’m new to posting here but have been lurking for a while. I hope you don’t mind a post on a well-covered subject, but I haven’t found an answer — I’ve read most all of the resources on this topic available, and almost they all focus on issues with the “Learn” button on the garage door opener and the procedure overall.

However, my problem is that I can’t get past the first part of the procedure — getting the LED on the mirror to flash rapidly in response to the remote transmitter next to it. I’ve followed the steps - buttons 1 and 3 held down for 20 seconds until it flashes rapidly to erase the old programming — got that — then hold the original remote next to the mirror and push button on mirror and transmitter at the same time — no dice. It just keeps blinking slowly and never changes.

My Liftmaster is from 2016 so it’s using rolling codes, but I can’t even get that far. For what it’s worth, the remote has a new battery, worked perfectly to program my wife’s Honda, AND worked to program my 2006 e90. I also tried the spare remote (same model).

Also, my e70 is a 2011 with build date of late May 2010, if that matters.

So.... is there something else should I try? Another type of remote? Dancing in the driveway? I’m open to suggestions.

Like I said, I can’t even get the LED on the mirror flash rapidly to acknowledge the remote. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide...
-Jim
