FRM Module Extended Warranty
However, the dealership usually use the DCS system to check on the warranty status of your vehicle. They rarely use another system called the AIR to check the warranty. Both system are applicable to our E70 vehicles, so next time you want to find out if there's any parts on your car that might still have warranty, ask the dealership to check using AIR system as well. Or you can call BMW NA's customer relations and have them check it for you. Here's the number: 1800 831-1117 I just left my vehicle with a local dealership to work on the faulty FRM. The usual symptoms of non working window switches, Alarm, Daytime running light, turn signal, and a few other lighting related issues all came up after I unplugged the battery to work on a suspension component. Moral of the story? I'm not sure there's one. These modules are prune to failure and apparently a simple battery disconnect was enough to fry one. p.s. The AIR system also found the following extended coverage for a 2012 X5M: 1. S63 Engine Vent Pipe 2. S63 High Pressure Fuel Pump 3. Front Propeller Drive Shaft

Worthy info Maruzo. Been posted before but with new owners everyday buying these old tanks it's good to be able to find the info quickly.
BTW, my understanding of the FRM issue is not that it gets fried per-say, but that the firmware gets corrupted for some reason I can not remember. At least that's what my poor over worked brain is returning for info at the moment. Can happen at literally anytime, but is supposedly very common while programming or coding. Carly gives a very strict warning before coding LCM in the E70 citing this fault as a risk.

The going rate for repairing the FRM is around $150 to $200, plus you have to remove it from the footwell and then mail it in. The removal video I looked at shows this a difficult job because of that tiny space you have to unplug and remove the nut. I think i'm am going to order an online coding service to update as much of the softwares on the CIC and other various components as possible. Has anyone here tried the following service? https://www.codemybimmer.ca/product/...ing-us-canada/ It's $99 per session. I wonder what the scope of the work can include.

Just had a buddy run into FRM issues.,due to a left headlight issue. After screwing around with ballasts, wiring questions, coding, etc. He took it to the dealer, as they had replaced the headlight during a collision repair a few years ago.
. They could get the light to work when hooked up to their software, but not through the car. Told him they suspected it was the FRM, but weren't sure. However, FRMs can only be coded to a single car. After that they are useless to other vehicles. So if he ordered one for $480,it was not returnable if it didn't solve his issue. He found a YouTube video, hooked up inpa or insta and reset the FRM, and all was well. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk |

My 2013 128i had the same headlight issue. Replaced the bulb multiple times but the DRL just won't turn on. I took it to the dealership and they charged an inspection fee but found the fault with the FRM. They reset the module and the DRL is now back in service. Apparently if the FRM is still salvageable the dealership will not replace it. Therefore you still have to pay the inspection fee. Sounds like your friend's issue might have beene resolved with a reset of the old FRM.
