The vehicles don't necessarily stop better than a pad with a different composition. The factory pads do have a good balance of low noise, performance and cost, just at the expense of dust.

I have seen low dust pads from BMW on newer models (2012). Finally we can dispell the notion that black brake pad dust is a badge of honour.

I ran Carobtech cermac pads for years on all my X5's, when I sold my last M-Sport 35d it have done 73,000klm and the pads were a third worn and the rotors were still in spec.

I could not get Carbotech pads this time for my X5M 50d because they did not have the blank plates because the car is only sold here, the UK & Europe. Anyway EBC Europe had the RedStuff ceramic pads plus a new formula so I got them, they also have the anti-squeel plates on them the same as the OEM's

The pads arrived late so I had to drive for 3 days on OEM's and I can tell the EBC 100% on the OEM's, no soft peddle, no squeel and so far 60% less dust. But you have to remember as the pads bedin the dust gets even less again and its a lighter colour anyway.

I never had any problems with Carbotech pads as long as you buy the "1521" for street use, but I am impressed with the new EBC's they stop better, then again the calipers on the M50d are massive, more than double the size of any caliper on a X5.

Parts are more expensive, but it's German
The heater fan makes a high pitched squeal when it's cold
Cheapness of the door handles
The $6,000 transmission I just put in it
The plastic trim around the shifter pops out of place when using manual mode
The manual mode is BACKWARDS
This rattle it's got going on... can't find that damn thing
How the rear doors close compared to the front. Thwack vs. THUD

It's a great truck. I get 17.3 MPG average which is fine by me considering the weight and decent amount of power. Some wear and tear stuff needs to be addressed but overall it's wearing quite well.

Depends on what you're accustomed to with the manual mode. I think it's "correct." The Scion FR-S that I test drove last weekend was backwards to me (forward to shift up).

Where did you get your transmission from? I have 144k and tow with it occasionally. I'm just waiting for my transmission to give up.

The FR-S is correct. Up is up, down is down. Transmission was rebuilt by a local shop using all new parts.

It started out as a failing torque converter that I didn't replace soon enough.

Lol like I said, it's what you're accustomed to. If you've driven mostly Japanese cars, forward is upshift. In European cars, forward is downshift. Even sequential race transmissions are forward for downshift.

There should be a universal agreement about the direction. Purely for safety.

So if you don't like it, change it. Easy to swap the two pins. BMW even sell the console label in both versions, since the early models were reversed for 2002.

- AC turns on every time I start the car.
- Steering tilts up when turning off the car. I just want it to stay where it is.
- MPG's in the city can't seem to go beyond 12MPG.
- Navigation DVD spinning sound.
- Headlight washers popping up every time I just wanna clean the windshield.
