Yes. That means it has been taken out for a handful of test drives. A brand new car, should have approx. 7-10mi, tops.

Wouldn't bother me personally, but I would ask the dealer the reason for the miles. Test drives would bother me less than the vehicle having been driven to the body shop for repairs from damage in transit, for example. Find out why the miles and then make a choice.
Most of my cars have had 10 km or so; my Z4 had 100 km but I knew the sales rep and dealer, and was satisfied.

Mine had only 2 miles when I picked it up.
It won't bother me but your dealer better come up with a good explanation about where the 50 miles came from. |

Keep in mind, sometimes vehicles are driven home by the engineers at the plant. We use to do this and put a sticker in the car saying it was road tested. The max we were allowed to put was 75 miles.

Thanks for your feedback guys! I'll ask the client advisor about these miles.
I'm looking at this X5: http://picasaweb.google.com/evolvah/...ey=BHDCfmoGUpQ When I got into it for a test drive it had 49 on the odometer. I put like 9 more miles on it. It was built on May 30th, so it spent about a month at dealer's lot. Maybe it was test driven a few times during this period. It is a 2008 model, which qualifies for 0.9% and free Premium Pkg, which makes it rather attractive to me. It is also not overstuffed with options I would not order if I were to build one. It has HD and Sat radio that I am unlikely to use much, plus, it has a Cold Weather Pkg, which is ironic for Texas weather. I would gladly loose these options. I am not 100% sure if Sport Pkg with 214 wheels is worth $4700 but pretty much all available X5 in the area have it. I would not mind having power tailgate mostly to be able to close it softly without waking up the baby. Comfort access could be nice but that's debatable. There is an option to order a new one custom built and to secure 2.9%. But that is approximately $3000 of a difference on a 5-year loan. Not sure if the ability to choose exact options is worth it. Any advises are welcome

Fine looking car. I would not be worried by the miles as long as the dealer has a good reason why they are so.
Concerning the power tailgate option you would have specified - the standard tailgate has 'soft close' powered closing for the last 1/4 inch so you really do not need to slam shut the lid. Should keep the baby (and daddy) happy! IMHO, the 214s make the car. |

I'm with the gang...~50 miles is a blink and unless I suspected
hot rod drives out of the stlr's lot with a cold motor, I would not be worried. If it's a really good deal for you, go for it... You are in summer TX, so I don't think the "warm up" period is a problem, lol! Maybe beat on them harder for price, for all the test drives. GL,mD

Sometimes dealer exchange cars with other local dealers... the miles could have come from that...

Dealer says that cars usually come with 8-14 miles on the odometer. Then, their technicians do a pre-delivery check which adds another 3-5 miles. X5 I'm looking at was stored off the dealer's lot in their storage lot, which is 5 miles away. So, 14 (original) + 5 (technician) + 5 (to the storage lot) + 5 (from the storage lot) = 29 miles. Difference is 20 miles.
Dealer also said that it could have possibly be test driven before. Assuming that it was kept at the same storage lot, I need to subtract a round trip (10 miles), which leaves another 10 miles for the test drive. Does it sound reasonable? |
