Sorry to hear. I think all $tealers are essentially same. When I took delivery of my car they did not detail the car in the rush to get the car out before the closing time and asked me to bring it over later for a detail job. When I got the car back the shadowline trim was all scratched up. Took it back the CA had a guy buff the scratches but it did not help, I should have probably asked for a professional job or had them replace the shadowline trim. If no one else sees them, I definitely see them and it hurts
I agree with the rest of the folks get the bumper replaced.

btw, everyone, the program update I mentioned... it was unexpected. They mentioned it by saying "looks like you need a program update also, because of a recall"... I asked what it was for but they wouldn't/couldn't say... I just had a reprogramming done 2 months ago for something else for the 1st time and still needed this one. All I can tell you is this is what it says on the receipt.
0061960200 E70 N52K DMTL Programming, B12 18 09 0058729 SIB# 12-18-09 N52 being the 3.0 engine so maybe only 3.0s are affected. I googled DMTL and get Diagnostic Module Tank-Leakage or something about a pump?

That is really horrible of what they did and did not notified to you about the damaged. Of course, it not one of their cars, so they do not care much. Demanding your SA to replace your bumper or talk directly to their upper management.
I hate to see something like that after you bring your car in for servicing and come out w/ some cosmetics damaged. |

My X was hit in a lot on the city at the EXACT same spot as yours. I figured, no biggie, its just a bumper but... NO bumpers on the X - this is a part of the FENDER. Dealer estimate for new fender paint and paint matching the side was close to 3k (i know.. insane) I had it fixed (not replaced) at a reputable shop in brooklyn for 900

So it's been over a week... what a frustrating process to get them to even start work on it... the service manager has been very unresponsive... after many phone calls and emails he finally gave the go-ahead to the body shop (still without responding to me). Despite me requesting a replacement multiple times, he only gave the order to repair it. The body shop on the other hand has been very responsive and re-assured me I would not be able to tell there was damage (100% repaired). The black trim is replaced, the white fender/aero kit are repaired and the crack re-bonded. Today, Tuesday, is the day I should get an update (they started Friday). They said the work is good for as long as I own the car. If I'm not satisfied with the work today, then I don't have to accept it back yet. What that means, I'm not sure.
Anyway, I got to thinking about the car's worth because it's been damaged. Would something like this be considered to be damaged enough to lower its resale value? I'm not sure if it's on record anywhere (most "scratches" aren't) so it'd probably be up to me to disclose it. The shop mentioned (before they started the repair) that if it were a full replacement, everything up front (hood, etc.) would have to be repainted to color-match - and I was thinking that would be bad for resale as opposed to a scratch/dent repair. What's worse? I ask because I theoretically could still demand a full replacement. Should I seek a diminished value claim? Should I hold the dealer otherwise responsible for this potential value loss?

It shouldn't affect it at all...sorry to see you going thru this specially because when I built my x it was mainly based on the way yours looked and ideas from other members...
If I were you I would stop bringing it to Hassel all together....they r the worst dealership I have had to deal with |

Bottom line is: a $tealer is a $tealer. Some are really bad, others maybe not as bad, but they are all a bunch of sheisters and I don't trust ANY of them. I've had my share of bad experiences here in NJ.
They will always put profit ahead of the customer, and will try to nickel-and-dime you into poverty. It's not a BMW phenomenon, it's a car industry phenomenon. Having said that, keep calm and don't let this get you blood pressure up . Just do what you have to do, and do it calmly. I would definitely write a certified letter to BMW North America Corporate and CC the Service Manager of the dealership on it. Explain in the letter that not ONLY are you disappointed with the lack of attention and responsiveness by the dealership, but that you are DISGUSTED that they tried to slip you the car back without fessing up to the damage. That shows lack of professionalism and lack of accountability. And obviously do not give them a "5" on the response survey. Stick a "1" in there, since all these grades wind up in BMW NA.As for the damage, a good body shop should be able to take care of it without replacing the full panel. They can do amazing things now with computerized re-spraying and make it look like new. Good luck! Last edited by StanF18; 06-16-2009 at 12:39 PM. |
