Sorry to know about your X. Similar thing happened to me. Took it to the $tealer for my first service, when I picked it up, scratches all around, at least 15 of them. What the hell. I wash my X every couple of weeks myself, so I knew I had no scratches. I complained so they tried to buff it up, but didn't work. They wanted me to come back for professional machine buffing. I didn't bother. Got no time, I live in Vancouver and drove over 2 and half hours for my free service. Should have rather paid for it here in Vancouver.

I hope you don't let them get away with this that easy.

By the way, let us know if you feel any difference after the software update.

Can someone tell me if the dent inward on that bottom side black trim is considered frame damage (pic4)? I ask because that's the biggest no-no when buying a used car. Like I mentioned, that whole black trim around the front is being replaced.

I was also told by people with experience that any kind of insurance work gets reported to carfax. That would be bad.

Still haven't gotten it back yet - they said by end of week and I'm not going to rush this.

I've heard that there is a dollar amount threshold for insurance ($1000?) and that it only goes to carfax if a claim is filed. This came from a person that handles car insurance claims. I've actually fixed a scratch and dent myself to avoid this.

So if the dealer is paying for it, it shouldn't be going to carfax. I guess unless the dealer is filing a claim.

Sorry to hear about the damage. I would ask for a complete replacement. I don't know why you would need to replace the entire front end to color match. I can only imagine there would be a huge difference in color if your car wasn't a factory color or has some serious years on the car.

Also, Rallye is no better than Hassel. They take photos of your car when you drop it off with them so they are not liable for any damage that is pre-existing, but I have friends that have had similar problems with you. They will notice damage that was not there prior to dropping the car off and Rallye "fails" to inform you before you take the car. At least Hassel has been somewhat responsive with meeting your demands. Rallye has been trying to hold out for months from fixing my friends car.

Are you considering selling the vehicle?

Why, are you interested?

Not right now or in the near term but it's always a possibility with german cars right? They won't last as long as you want them to and someone else may take it off your hands. I don't want to be out a few thousand because of irresponsible dealers. It sucks because I baby everything I own.

I was just told that this wasn't reported to insurance or claimed... the work was done on their dime... so I shouldn't have to worry about carfax which is good.

they didn't mean replacement of the whole front end... they meant re-painting of all/most of the rest which would be "an entirely different process" which no doubt would cost them more. Like I said though, I will take a look at this first and decide if it's acceptable... I sort of don't want more touched than necessary.

It's also disconcerting to hear of Rallye being the same way. I was in there once and I did notice the picture-taking so I thought they would be more responsible. They are only a few blocks away while Hassel is much further. Hassel was rated one of the top 30 BMW dealers (service?) in the nation though and I bought from them (which means I also get loaners). Can't trust anyone...

No frame damage is the actual metal rail that almost runs the length of the car on each side. This is just a little bumper scrape. And there is no way it's going to get reported to Carfax. Carfax only gets it if the insurance submits and it's usually a certain dollar amount. And if you keep your car for a couple more years it will be 4 years old---if you sell a buyer should expect that over those 4 years that some type of minor body repair is likely to happen.

Sorry to hear about your problems.
For a premium vehicle, I think dealers should give premium service. (like replacing the whole bumper). Hope you get things resolved in Vancouver!

Check for over spray before you take the car. Even check the wheels and glass.
