IMO the ONLY real solution to the PDC is to allow each driver the option to set whether they want the PDC to be normally ON with the PDC button temporarily turning it off. Or have the PDC normally OFF with the PDC button allowing them to turn it on when they decide they need it. This should be a trivial problem to solve via a software update: one option setting in the driver profile via the idrive. BMW simply doesn't want to do it.

No doubt it is a legal/liability issue for BMW.

We went to the dealer and got "the book", took it home, and ticked each of the options that we wanted, returned to the dealer where they seemingly fudged the $'s for each option and then gave you a price for the car.

WOW. Rusty Jones. Now that's a name I haven't heard since my days back in Pennsylvania.

I had Parktronic on the two MB's I had, and it is superior to the BMW PDC. First, it is always on, but since it is a seprate display, you don't notice it unless you want to notice it. It also comes on immediately, no delay waiting for the iDrive to boot up. And not nearly as hyper sensitive.

FWIW I have no issue with the PDC display being always on; its the loud gong that drove me crazy during our extended test drive. But then ALL of the E70 gong sounds are both too loud and too persistent for my taste. For example, the seat belt gong that persists even when the X5 is in park, with the parking brake set - DUH.

The problem is when you use the rear hitch to put on a bike carrier for example. The moment you put the gear in reverse you get the warning tone. Now you can rig up a special resistance circuit to put on the hitch electrical outlet (which I did), and it will switch the rear PDC off completely.

It would have being far easier however, for all concerned, if there was a setting in idrive (old or new), to simply switch off the rear PDC.

Whats frustrating is that BMW are aware of the problem and promised to release a software fix to remedy this issue ... but judging that the new idrive still doesn't have it, I'm not holding my breath for the older idrive to be fixed.

So I will have to continue using my radio shack resistance circuit I built.

Hmmm... I wonder if the BMW bike accessory comes with a fake trailer light adapter to turn off the rear PDC?

Funf Driesig

And yes I feel another exclusive Funf Dreisig AG 'must have' BMW accessory coming on. Ain't it nice of BMW to screw so many things up and Funf Dreisig AG these business opportunities
