I think if you have a production number it means you got an allocation, and it looks like I got mine before you... why then is my car not scheduled?

Another thought...I read somewhere that the LCI E70 will be unveiled in Detroit in January with deliveries of the '11 model starting in the US in March. If the delay gets any longer, I could always cancel my order for the '10 model and wait for the latest and greatest(?). I just found out we can drive my grandmother's old E39 528iT while we wait for delivery, so I don't mind the wait at this point.

That said it's not so unusual in the universe of Just In Time inventories for some glitch in the supply chain to hold things up. There are thousands of parts in a BMW, after all, and their supply base is likely spread all over the world. Just one supplier with a quality problem that propagates far enough into the chain before it's detected could cause a serious shortage.

Not in the auto industry, but I've been involved in cleaning up my share of supply chain disasters.
What makes you think the holdup in supply relates to a part problem? Maybe the camera manufacturer ran out of glass? Maybe they sold too many to Ford and didn't leave enough on the shelf for BMW.

Without data I couldn't say what caused a shortage or even if that's the cause of the delay. I really have no idea.

Sure, It's possible a supplier just 'ran out'. But in my experience shortages are more often caused by some quality problem which propagated into the supply chain some distance before it was detected, resulting in scrap or recall. It doesn't take much in the complicated world of long outsourced supply chains and Just In Time inventory to cause a major delay. I've seen it many, many times. Just sayin.

Glad you are finally getting to the end.
Mine only took a total of one week in the prep center and transportation to dealer.
Good luck on the same!!

My opinion is that your dealer did not have a slot open. I ordered my X5 after you and will be picking it up Saturday. But -- my dealer sells a ton of X5s and has a very large allocation.

There is finally an answer to this camera question as per Bimmerfest. All 3 cameras have been deleted from the Technology Package and the price was decreased by $150 USD. This is effective for all vehicles that have been ordered and that will be ordered until further notice.
