As a UK E70 owner i must say the comfort seats are fantastic, miles better than the sports seats. Worth every penny.

My guess is straightforward but horrendously expensive... one would need to check the wiring harness, but I suspect the seat contains all the 'smarts' one needs- so it only gets power from the car- maybe a signal from the bus about which 'driver' to select, but all memory might be in the seat.
