What does that have to do with wanting to do the "Build Your Own" feature on BMWUSA.com? Not everyone wants to buy the diesel. And, more importantly, many buyers out there aren't aware of the Diesel Credit. So, it's a moot point.

Like I said, you guys have to think of it with a business viewpoint. If you still have inventory of X product, why would you want to advertise the newer model when they are only SLOWLY trickling into the dealers/stores? Once the newer model becomes common knowledge, then ppl won't want to buy the older model. Also, they will expect to buy it for less.

And back to "killing my point", if those ppl who want to buy the 2011 3.5D and utilize the Diesel Credit, talk to the salesppl about it. Why would you need the "Build Your Own" option?

Of course they have 2010 inventory...just like every other model they sell. This is a normal part of doing business. The 2007 configurator was up and running long before the e70's hit the dealers. Guess what? They had inventory of 2006's at the time! Second, No. It would not be wise to attempt to hide the 2011's as if they were some shady dealer, they are a manufacturer. Model year is not the issue (re: it is still 2010 and these are 2011 models), the issue is that they are not presenting their latest version of the x5 properly. People like us (xoutpost nuts) are aware of all of the changes in detail so we are less likely to be deterred from purchasing due to this nonsense. Joe six pack who has never owned a bmw but thought he would take a look around the site because his lexus sucks might be turned off by the fact he cannot configure his potential 65k dollar purchase immediately. Consumers pay for convenience mi amigo.
Please.....are you saying that my logic isn't sound? Think of it in business terms. There may already be a few ads out. But ideally, they want to sell their current inventory.

Look at other carmakers and their websites. They may also start running ads for upcoming releases. But, they will keep the "Build Your Own" with the current model even when the upcoming model has already started trickling into the showrooms. During the overlapping period, every automaker will keep the current model on their website to try to sell the most they can.

I don't see what's the big deal. Geez!

Isn't the point being made that BMWNA is sending out emails advertising build your own 2011 models and the capability is not actually on the site yet? I dont; think anyone here is argue the proper marketing message or tactics that BMWNA is or should use to clear inventory.

I haven't received such emails from BMWUSA. If that's true, then I can understand the ppl's frustration. However, I don't know if that's the case because I haven't received the email.

I received one yesterday. When I first tried the link I received nothing but errors, Now it hangs for a while, then takes you to the 30i build. Here is a piece of the email they sent. It was for all 2011 BMW's, with a section for each.

Folks we've all worked for places that right hand doesn't talk to the left. Obviously BMW has a big oops on their hands. I'm sure it will be fixed in early June.

I still got mine ordered without a hitch at my dealer (and thanks to the posts on this board)

Odd. I didn't get it. And, I always get BMW newsletters, promos, and offers from BMW via email.
