As an added point of data - I ordered 6/15 and my 35d was delivered to the dealer in NJ yesterday. I pick it up tomorrow. 'Buachaill'? Cad as tu? |

As Loch Garman agus tu fein?
(For those not following, that is Irish aka Gaelic. Will use English from now on!) Talked with dealer again tonight and they're still claiming no build date. At least I got them to admit that they've never had a problem like this ever before but is that good or bad news?

Mine started its train trip to Oxnard on July 24, and the dealer says it's due August 10 (!?!?). Sounds like it's Santa's personal train with stopovers for all the little boys and girls across the country, with me being last.

Picked up my car on 9/1 - a total of a 104 day wait (almost 15 weeks). Probably a record. Things were looking good for a 8/1 pickup until an option change check for side view cameras bumped the build date a month even though I didn't even get it in the end.
Anyway, car is here and really like it. Will post a "first month" report later in September with photos (Deep Sea Blue exterior, Tobacco interior). Very happy with the combo. In the meantime, if anyone has a pointer to the thread on how to configure the comfort seats perfectly, please point it out. Can't find it with search.

Glad you finally got your baby - 104 days has got to be a record - I ordered mine last Saturday, they put in the changes to a slot they had Monday and I received my production number on Tuesday. I called yesterday and it said that it would be complete on Sept 11th, so hoping within 2 weeks of completion I have it up here.

My dealer told me right up front that, at the time, they didn't have any "allocations" (as he called them) so it would probably be sometime late in October before I could get it.
In light of the changes they made midstream, I kind of wish that were true, but trying to keep up with the technology curve is just a game you can never win anyway, so "waiting" is often a fool's errand. (not always, but you have to set a limit, i.e. 6 months, etc.) At any rate, a day or so later he called and told me they were able to get an allocation - I didn't ask, but I assume this meant that someone else had cancelled one - so we ordered it at the end of July, whereupon he predicted delivery on 31 August, but they held it pending filling up the carrier or something, and I took delivery 3 September. Not bad and beyond his control - it would have been exactly on time if he left when they said they put it on the carrier - but more or less exactly as he said. (although patience is a virtue only for OTHER people) I only learned just yesterday that BMW offers you the whole "oooh.. look and see how far along your new expensive toy is!" or I would have asked for a production number. But he said it would be here by xx date and it more or less was, so that's perfectly fine. I think your dealer owes you an explanation. No more than one business day later or so, he knew exactly when it would be built, so he owes you an explanation. Oh BTW, "production week" is an excellent term here as I'm told it actually takes five days to build one of these. |
