I average almost 20-21 mpg city driving. On the Freeway, with good traffic, speeds of 60-70mph, I get about 25 mpg usually

We bought an '07 last fall with the 4.8. We consistenty average 19.?? mpg. (we live rural- no city driving). My wife and I both enjoy driving this car more than any other we have owned- (everything from Jags, Merc's, other BMW's,...). I don't think it would be the same without the V8. It's just a blast to drive.

The way I look at it is it probably costs me less than $35 extra a month in fuel to drive the V8 vs. the 6 (we drive less than 10k per year). If $35/mo. extra is an issue to me, I have no business driving a ~40K used car- I should get a Kia instead.

Life's short- get what you want and don't sweat the small potatoes-

Edit- is there an "e" in potatoes? I can never remember.

+1. Though I would roll alternatively with a white Nissan Cube instead of a Kia ha.

For me its at 40000 miles per year, its bit more, but when you add it up, still not that much more.

I am buying through a dealer from an auction from BMW lease returns, the 09 X35d is around $36 to 42 depending on options etc, not a bad deal I don't think. Most have less then 20K miles on them and still in full warranty.

Whats the difference is there 3.0 vs. 35i???

The 3.0 in the 2008 is called the N52 engine.
The 35i is a new engine, called the N54, still 3.0 litres, but:

+2 turbochargers
+ direct injection
+ horsepower
+ torque

Totally different driving experience, IMO.

Thanks.
$20k for a X5 with over 100k on it? Or anywhere NEAR 100k? Take it while you can. However, since it's family, I'd feel bad. The thing isn't even worth $14k with anywhere near 100k on it. Don't pay attention to KBB values either. Any smart person that knows X's wouldn't go anywhere near a first-gen with over 50-60k miles on it. Even that's stretching it. Ask me how I know...

Also, 19.5 MPG combined in a 4.8is? Are you a magician?

Sorry, I don't believe you. I own the same truck you do. 2007 4.8. All software updates and I don't floor it everywhere I go. There's no way you get anywhere over 15 mpg driving off the highway in that truck. Period. Especially when EPA ratings are 15/21. You're telling me you're getting EPA estimated highway MPG just driving rural? Unless it's flat as a board with a tail wind everywhere you go....HA! Ok, David Blaine.

Believe what you want. I'm going by both the trip computer and manual check at fill ups. I havn't reset the mpg on the trip computer in several months- it presently reads 19.2. I have verified this at fill ups on numerous accasions.

Troll much?
