THANK YOU FOR THIS - I bought an 08 in Jan 2014 and since then I've had to top off the coolant a few times but the worst time was during a tow 2 months after I got it - it took in damn near 2 gallons of coolant!
It's going in next week for an unrelated issue and I'm going to make sure they perform a pressure test as my CPO expires in July. I just got it back few weeks ago also for an evap replacement. Anyways great right up and hopefully I won't have to do this myself but I'd be up for it since I've done plenty of work on my cars. Will keep posted! |

Just coming back to this...mine turned out to be the expansion tank and they kept my car 15 days total just for that! I didn't care b/c I had fun DD'ing 2014 X3 X-Drive, actually enjoyed carting my kids around w/that loaner.

I've noticed a wet spot under my car. directly under the reservoir tank. i couldn't tell if it came from the hoses or the tank. so i filled the tank with some water and drove around the block a few times. pulled back into the driveway and started to hear a dripping noise hitting the cardboard i put under the car. the drip certainly comes from just under the expansion tank because i can see stains dripping down. If i bring the car to my mechanic can he test the cooling system to be sure it is directly a leak coming from the tank?

Yes, the expansion tank is known to develop a leak. Yes, the mechanic should be able to answer that question. Check your over flow tank for sign or yellowing. The black plastic gets hard and yellows a little before it breaks. (apparently). Good Luck. |

Just realized I didn't post this in your DIY thread bc I was looking for my reply - I clicked your link to this one!
Anyway my passenger side AC was starting to blow hotter air during startup, it would take some time to taper off but was never as cold as the driver side - they did the dye test and found a leak in the evaporator so they replaced it. Now it's ice cold! Not sure about your code, I actually didn't hook up my scanner for this one. My previous code was P0444 which turned out to be emmission evap purge control valve circuit which was stuck open so they replaced that as well. Looked at the invoice to be more specific: Fuel Tank Vent Valve (carbon canister) Permanent malfunction replaced (left) Last edited by MAK3N3; 07-11-2014 at 05:55 PM. |
