Added LCI rear tail lights + coding details

I just added the LCI rear tail lights, and coded the car. I was just going to add this to my original coding thread, but I can't reply to it for some strange reason.

The install for the lights is pretty simple, there are 3 bolts holding each outer light. Remove those, and unclip the harness and you are done. For the trunk lid lights, you need to loosen the lower part of the inner cover. Its all held on using snaps. Once you have access to the trunk lid lights, loosen one bolt. This will allow you to squeeze the locking clip releasing the lights. Installation is the reverse of what you did

For the coding, You will need to modify your FA (Vehicle order). You need to add +MUEH to the FA in CAS and FRM. You can follow the instructions http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...2&d=1312021107

Once you have done that, you need to code your FRM using the Expert Profile in NCS Expert (which doesn't allow .man manipulation files). This step codes the module so that it knows you are running the LCI tail lights and it disables the brake light out warning. This will reset your FRM and any coding which you previously had in that module, you will need to redo.

As an aside, my old tail lights are for sale http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=600795

Thanks for the info. I've coded a lot of little add-ons, but haven't done anything with the FA. That PDF will be good to keep in the event I need it.

Thanks for sharing blue dragon.

Do you have any photos of the LCI taillights? How long did it take you to fit them? It doesn't sound too difficult at all.

I'm very tempted to order a set!!

I didn't take any pictures, you can just look at any 2011 + X5. It takes about 45 minutes. Takes about 10 minutes per side for the outers. The trunk lid mounted ones are more of a pain since you need to partially remove the inner trunk trim. That will probably take you 5 minutes to get off, and then 10 minutes to remove and replace the inner lights.

You can get the lights from Tischer, getBMWparts.com powered by Tischer BMW - Your #1 Source for all OEM BMW Parts/Accessories!

Just received my LCI taillight set yesterday and I'm going to install them this weekend. How long does it take to do the coding? Dealer wants to charge me an hour of labor.

Also, I dont see any LED bulbs....the brake lights are regular halogen bulbs.

Thanx

^^ Brake lights are still halogen, but there is now one less bulb. The dealer will charge you an hour for coding, 1/2 hour if you are lucky. Any coder out there can do it in 10 minutes or less . Its basically modifying the vehicle order to add the code for LCI tail light retrofit ( + MUEH). You have to write that to the two modules where the vehicle order is stored, the CAS and the FRM for the E70 using the fa write function

Then you need to code the module which controls the lights, which also happens to be the FRM. Based on the vehicle order, all parameters will be set for you, you don't need to any entries from the .trc file manually. You are basically reading the module, and writing back to the module using the sg coderien function

All this takes 10 minutes or less if you have coded before.

If you have SSS Progman, the coding job will be easier. Just choose retrofit and go, the system will rewrite the VA and code all the modules that needed and restore all the memories back to the related modules when completing coding job.

Installed my new LCI tail lights yesterday. Took approx 40 mins to install and had a friend code them in 5 mins.

I love the newer look. But, I noticed that there is a bulb on the tailgate lights that doesnt go on, both sides. I never noticed if these bulbs worked on the previous lights. I havent seen any LCI X5's on the since yesterday to compare. Does anyone know if these bulbs are suppose to go on? The strips are lighting up.
