Update for me; I had the recall performed last Friday. Since then the X5 seems more snappy and willing to take off (of course not before the throttle lag kicks you in the pants from a dead stop) not sure if it's related to the fact it was all reset and new software and parts (shrug). Its' driving behavior hasn't changed since Friday and when I take off from lights I keep leaving others in the dust - it just pulls away much faster than I remember.
I'm watching my mileage again and for the last 5 days the OBC shows 21.5 (I know it's not most scientific but generally it matches what I get when I calculate it out).

I was in touch with my mother again today. Ordered new shoes for her 325i sport.
She tells me that the X5 continues to be rejected from emissions testing because not all the OBD-II criteria are ready for testing, supposedly related to insufficient drive cycles but obviously this isn't the root cause for my parents' vehicle as it's logged hundreds of miles since the recall was performed. Ideas on how to proceed? "Drive it more" from the dealership is clearly not the solution and they're not even sure why the various monitors are not ready for testing. (She did get a 30-day extension of the vehicle registration so it'll be on the road legally for another month) |

I'm having the same issue of "Not all OBD-II criteria ready". Will take it back to the dealer this week. Was your issure taken care of? If so, what was the fix? I'd like to tell my service guy where to look.

I've never had to use this, but there is a published "BMW Drive Cycle" that, purportedly, if you drive this it WILL set all readiness monitors... google. A |

Eventually, the issue was resolved when I temporarily moved back in with my parents for a few weeks. Basically I beat the snot out of it after it had warmed up and the OBD monitors were ready by the time I drove to the dealership. The service advisor admitted that the emissions control system on the diesels are finicky- he had another customer drive over 3.000mls and even then it wasn't ready for testing. The Drive Cycle doesn't always work either.
Whatever. Just redline the sucker about a dozen times and do some aggressive driving where traffic conditions permit. I did full-on acceleration from 0-130km/h once and then did multiple acceleration runs from 60-120km/h keeping revs above 3000rpm. |

D'OH!
Took it to dealer. Dealer said, "In Texas, inspection stations are only to do a safety inspection; no emission test requied for diesels" |

Safety and Emissions tests are just a money-maker for garages and repair shops and today do very little to improve public safety. New cars just don't break down that frequently anymore so I don't see the point of inspections until 4+ years. That's one redeeming feature of SC- no inspections of anysort at all. |
